Oh I got truck-lite LED headlights. I have fought LED lights for 10 years but they saved me on the literal first day of the trip. Spotted a dear in the middle of the road where the candles the FJ75 came with would not have seen. Was able to slam the brakes and swerve to miss it by a foot.
But they don't work when it's snowing.

You can get Truck-Lite LEDs with heated elements to mitigate snow buildup. Ran those when I lived at 9k feet in CO and they were awesome.

Maybe a weird question, but I live in an area where they are pretty strict on vehicle mods. Does your wheel and tire setup fit within the factory wheel wells? Without the need of flares?

I drooled a bit when I saw the line up outside your shop of alu-cabs. I've been thinking of doing that plus an awning for our 1995 troopy. It is a LHD with a 1FZF. Given that you have done up a few of these at this point, how compelling is the argument to swap out a 1FZ (carburated) for a 1HD? I'd also been playing with the idea of that 2.8 liter Cummins crate engine. I don't really have much of a complaint over the 1FZ, but I do contemplate the weight of the vehicle going up as it gest better set up for camping. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

The 1FZ is an awesome engine and I'm not so sure I'd be very quick to spend 20k swapping it out. You'd spend $7-10k on the engine alone and probably $5000 on a transmission while you're in there to get the right output shaft (you could swap your output shaft I suppose).
I prefer the 1HDT to the 1FZ for sure, but the 1FZ is one of the best gas options for these trucks.

I'll put my bet that in the long run the petrol versions of the 7 series will be the most collectible ones worldwide, particularly the 1FZ ones.

I know in the US there is a fantasy about diesel trucks currently but for the rest of the world diesel=utility and petrol=enjoyment.

Hello,

Easy on the gas pedal helps a lot with the 1FZ engine.

Thank you all for your thoughts on this. I am leaning a little towards staying with the 1FZ. Maybe rebuilding it. Its now been a year since I last drove it and I remember it being a bit anemic, but that could just be a tired engine, although the compression was fine. (Apologies for hijacking your thread for a moment, Willis!)

Great info

Hello,

I appreciate your comment.

1FZ engines have a lot of low rpm power, much like a diesel engine. So it is not necessary to hit the gas pedal hard.

Keep the rpms around 1900 - 2200 and you have enough power for most applications. However, wheeling may require more than that, thus increasing fuel consumption.

The above applies to 70 Series Land Cruisers.

Hope this helps.

I did last year, went alright. This thing is so heavy it doesn't slide in ice much.
I’ll be doing the same with the HDJ81 this winter. Hoping to pop over for some turns a week or so after I get off the boat. I’ve got a new SnoPlank waiting for me over there...
