I'm impressed. Ordered my M211 3M wrap on Friday and received it on Sunday, (thanks Amazon prime!), just cleaned with simple green then installed and trimmed with an exact o knife.

All this took about 45 minutes while the wife was inside. Let's just say she was impressed when she came out!

I'm not super happy with the first few I layed down. My lines along the top aren't perfect. After the first side I realized the lines were crisper when you lay the vinyl on gently and really focus on pushing it into the crease. It left a much cleaner line FWIW.

84, that looks really good and I like the non-paint method but, could not get your link to work. I think I've found the 3M material on Amazon but would be curious to know which item you actually ordered. Did you order several of the 5'x1' product??

Thanks again for posting

For you guys doing the 3M approach, I did this about 1.5 years ago and it still looks brand new. Great alternative to painting.

I took a different approach than above though. I cut my pieces in advance. The first time I tried placing the vinyl directly on the trim and cutting along the groove. Did not turn out well at all on my truck. I then took the basic measurements and cut using a straight edge and it came out so much better.

Also, for my Black LC I went with M261, not M211.

That looks really good with clean lines. The second pic looks as if you did not go all the way into the crease rather leaving it a bit inside of the crease? That would seem more difficult to get such clean lines and corners but you seem to have done it perfectly. Were you able to cover all of the trim pieces with just one 5'x1' order? Thanks much for any additional info.. jmc5000

Yeah, one 5'x1' sheet was enough.

I found it easiest to cut the strips in length a bit longer than needed and cut the height of them to be the exact height I wanted. I did this all ahead of time. I left them just shy of the creases as that mimicked how the OEM strip was on my rig.

I then used scissors to get the ends cut to my liking. Taking a little off at a time, placing it (not sticking it) and made minor adjustments.

Believe me, I really tried a couple different times to place the vinyl first then cut as that would be soo much easier. Probably just me but I could not get the desired results doing it via this method.

Has anyone painted the trim on their 100? Did you do it yourself? Any insight? The center section that is painted is faded. It needs paint badly.

Thanks,

have to ask, what sliders are those?

They are White Knuckle sliders with full top plate. I really like them. They have their normal upward angle and I preferred that for protection and aesthetics. They still allow my kids to use them as steps.

N55luvr and 84runner, and anyone else that has any ideas. Did you cover the whole trim piece with the 3M, or just the light grey insert in the middle? The pics of your LCs look great.
I am debating whether to go that route, or get the duplicolor paint( and clearcoat, or just the clearcoat.
I have a '99 LC (river rock green mica) and my trim pieces are fading and dinged. The trim that was under the fender flares, before I removed them, looks like new and the trim that wasn't under looks bad.

I'm going to paint mine on the vehicle with some paint from these guys. Used their paint before on my 2010 Tundra and it's really good stuff.

@Javelin how much of a pain is it to take the trim off?

I was originally planning on taking the trim off, but after talking with someone else about it, I've changed my mind. Just gonna sand them a bit and hit it with a few coats to match my white paint.

It's pretty easy. A few clips and double sided tape. Don't pull too hard or you risk bending the plastic. Heat gun is your friend. Hardest part was cleaning the surface under the trim. So the new doubled sided tape can stick.

I used painters tape and news paper to cover the areas around the trim. Maybe a 1.5 hour job.

Anytime you cant paint around something you run the risk of it chipping easier because it creates an edge. The amount of time it takes to tape everything off you can just remove the trim and paint it off the car. This way you won't have over spray. Up to you

I did this and mine is the same color as yours. I just covered the center light colored part. Mine has been on for at least two years and still looks great.

I only did the center strips. The remaining trim was in decent shape. Then I used UA31 – Silver Grey Metallic Clearcoat Toyota touch up pain to clean a few spots up.

I'm a firm believer in the 3M approach. It's so easy to work with, nothing to mess up and you can redo it till you get it right, especially if you cut the strips before hand. The 3M is a great product and they still look like new after almost 2 years and basically 3 winters of heavy salt. No peeling at all.

I did just the stripe. I think that is the problem with most is that post fades and flakes. Also I think you're debating what most of us debated... Painting. But I'm telling you this 3m looks so good, zero prep unlike paint. I'm glad to hear it's holding up for others too
