The blue electrical tape and flex loom arrived. Looking at the picture on post #56 there is only 2 parts of the OEM harness that are taped or remain taped. I’m assuming the original harness was taped throughout. If anyone has a pic of an original undamaged harness please post a pic as I would like to match it as much as possible. Good thing the tape is rated down to -10C or 14F😂. Might have to heat it all up or wait.

Kids have really been interested in working on the Cruiser and learning. So, it went above 0 enough to get in the garage and I taught them how to use a seal puller to remove the torque converter seal, prep/install the new seal, and bolt on the bellhousing with loctite and torque to spec. New seal has been updated. Used petroleum jelly to pack seal instead of chassis grease as it will dissolve with ATF. Loctite 242 is recommended in the FSM for the bolts.

I never was able to locate the torque spec for the bellhousing so using the chart in the FSM I was able to identify that 10 & 12mm bolts were used and were 5T designation requiring 24 & 43 ft/lbs respectively.

Ran across this thread tonight about a transmission TSB. Best I can tell mine is included as far as the check ball recommendation. I’m guessing that there is no real way to determine if this was done to the transmission by dealer records due the age of these vehicles. @cruiserdan Any other updates or TSBs I should know about?

I just posted a tsb about transmission issues. Here you go

Why did you pull the trans with the transfercase? Was it easier?

Building entire truck basically. Pulled entire drivetrain at once.

The girls repaired the harness tonight and helped install some insultherm over the kick down cable as there were a few burn marks I wanted to protect.

One thing to note about rebuilding the harness is that the plastic clip that bolts to the upper bellhousing bolt was very tight to clip on with the correct size flex loom so any larger would not easily work or work at all. I originally put electrical tape around it to try to protect it from the clip but that proved to not work at all.

I contacted the original dealership where my Land Cruiser was sold to see if they had any service records on the TSB and no records found.

You can pull that yourself.

Just register the VIN to your account and all the dealer service shows up.

How far back does it go? The dealers tell me they change software every few years so that stuff gets lost.

Went ahead and ordered the transmission TSB parts as I don’t want to cut corners or take a chance on my truck.

Dealer's software maybe, this website is Toyota USA. It can go back to the beginning of my 97.

That’s cool. My local service manager looked it up for me and no records found at all.

Final washed extension housing with brake cleaner. Discovered it will work and slowly evaporate in the sun at 18 degrees. Installed new extension housing bearing and seal.

I discovered a broken bolt in the transmission that must have occurred from the impact wrench upon removal. Talked to my buddy at the machine shop that recommended a tip they use. Heated it up tonight with a propane torch & attempted to melt wax in the threads after 10 minutes. I saw some clear liquid coming out which I think is the thread locker.

@thetoyotaman

Can you update the original post with toyota PN for the seals, bearings, races and any other non-reusable parts for people that just need to do the rebuild? My case just started puking out oil and I suspect its due to the bearings getting warn so it's time for a rebuild.

If @JohnnyOshow22 still lived in my city I'd have him help me split my case again... Damn you montana.

Helped him split it but haven't quite got it back together yet haha

Somehow I missed the last 2 posts. Not much to update as Ive turned my focus to getting some things done on my 470 to enjoy for wheeling season. Had the Machine shop pull the broken stud and install the new torque converter seal. I think most all the parts are shown in my first 80 series thread but won’t be able to verify until I get back to the install.
