new plan is EFI V8 and automatic trans....the holiday weekend wheeling in my mini-truck (duals, locked rear, 5spd, Weber) made me HATE having a carb and stickshift :(

Sold the SM420 to another cruiserhead in Missoula, and picked up a TH350 and NP203 to build a crawlbox out of. it'll get doubled to the stock 10spline case via Advanced Adapters

The stock case cleaned up really nice though!

been looking at what to use for an auto shifter, my budget won't really allow for something nice like a Lokar or B&M....I found a 60's/70's Corvette shifter for a few bucks, but i think it's too short as-is.

The mechanism and detent stuff will help me build something out of it i hope, failing that, i've also been looking at the circle track style...i could easily home-make one, but there's no extra detents or lockout for park or reverse or anything.....

F155 is out! someone please buy it! ;)

also stripped 90% of the wiring between the steering wheel and headlights. Trail pig will get enough wiring to run a GM 350, heater fan, lights/signals and four gauges: oil, water, volts and Tach. Speed will be given via my Garmin mount on the dash. or Iphone I guess. Mabye a CB and stereo too.

need to wash the engine bay and re-work the brake lines in the way.

Picked up a V8 and some other stuff I don't need. 87-94 GM L05 truck motor...Low on the cheyv v8 power scale. supposedly only 50k.

Still going to rob accessories off a 72 350 i know of in a field.....

latest

gotta clean my garage up a bit, refresh the th350 and start the mockup process.

Looks good. You going to pull the heads and check stuff out, before bolting in? A little bit of work now, but might save a headache later. Any of the Chevy V8s have a ton of usable power. You'll be happy.

@scrapdaddy called it!

I was checking the valves out and thought, why does it not turn all the way....

now I gotta get a rebuild kit for the thing. and I dropped a piston in my garage breaking the skirt off

the sad thing is I think the Craigslist seller was correct that it had only 50k, the bearings all looked new and the cylinders looked amazing except for these two. grrrrrrr!!!!!!

bummer bout the cylinders but I do like that garage your in. Great setup!

Car Craft ran two nearly identical stories (about 18yrs apart) on building a motor for $500.....we'll see how mine rattles out. been keeping my list going on what I've bought so far. Amazon Prime and Mr. Gasket are my friends :)

My ScotchBrite crankshaft "machining" isn't ideal, but this motor really only has to last as long as it takes for me to save for a crate motor.

Skullyota,

I know your pain, I worked them for eleven years. Seven days week, overtime was good! Best advise I can give, is try to get off them. Your health and Family will thank you.

Good Luck!
