I recently got a 1993 Toyota SR5 Extended cab. I got it for my business but i like it waaaaayyyy toooo much. anyway i was looking to do a SAS on this truck, but I really want to use a 4 link coil spring setup(i might use aftermarket fj80 springs). I really want to have a BULLETPROOF axle under this truck to handle the power of a Lexus 4.0L v8, and likely 35 inch tires. I had a crazy idea:

Can you put on one ton bearings and a dana44 or dana60 inner c's and knuckles on the mini truck axle? ;p

Same goes for the rear with the bearings?

if not how do i BULLETPROOF a minitruck axle?
besides Longfields, trusses, and diff guards?

I'm new to the Toyota world... but i have to say i love it.

Thanks for the help:)

Uhm... don't shoot at your axles?

that's really it. Toy axles with chro-moly inners can take a good deal of abuse, as to the trusses and guards, what're up doing with the rig? Would it need that kind of armor?

You want bulletproof axles? Rockwells from a duece-and-a-half should do it.

Or, how about learning how to drive so you don't bust parts?

I've beaten on my 8" with 5.29s/aussie/longs/hysteer pretty damn hard. Today, I used the pinion as a support point to get stuck. Smoking 37's on rock with 10psi in the tires *both forward and reverse* pretty much tells me i'm good with my setup.

Seriously, I think the bearings are the least likely thing to fail in an axle in a crawling situation.
Bearings will fail, that's the truth of life, but most people bust a birf, or an inner much more often than anything else, followed closely by pinions, rings, ball-joints, and finally third-member housings. All of those can be avoided by mindful driving, the last three can be avoided by not being an idiot.

Before you sink a ton-and-a-half of cash into this bulletproof idea, my sincerest recommendation is to ask yourself if you really need to go to this extreme, because you're talking about a mod that is generally reserved for truggies, and trailer queens that see only rocks exclusively, and hardly end up on the road.

IBTL. Hmmm, torque output of a 1UZ versus the fact the drivetrain as it is has handled the output of those as well as Chevy 350's w/o issue..

pfft...real men run 406's.

:flipoff2:

You are tredding on virgin turf. Try it and let us know. My first reaction is if you want D60 bits under your truck install a D60 axle. Why try and mod the Toyota axle?

I'm with Pappy, once you get into replacing the knuckle balls and all that you'd be better off doing a 609 with a Hi9 third if you want a high clearance but beefy axle. Toyotas have their limits, if you need more strength than longfields then you need a new axle, not to try to rework the yoda housing.

Diamond Axles or check out all pro's web site he has a curry 9" set up. Also Gravel Maker has a set that uses a ford 9".
Lot's of options
options with the stock axle include- Longfields, six stud knuckles, trusses, diff guard etc.

X2 wise post .. but honestly .. I know couple of guys abusing 8" almost stock just with longs with 38" tires without problem ..

then just for 35" .. why bother that much .. ?

WTF?

Is a person not allowed to use a normal ol d60 anymore?

If the toy shiit wont work, then pass go and move straight to the most expensive overbuilt stuff he dont need.

I guess a 600 dollar Cragslist 60 is out of the question.
