Got my power steering pump in the mail this morning and got it installed. @ToyotaMatt will be happy it’s an OEM style rather than the Saginaw. It’s not a remanufactured unit, but a new chinesium one. I suspect it will be better than the remaned, but I’m still expecting it to be fairly temporary. Rockauto for $150... I need to go get some more distilled water and an other gallon of coolant in the morning and I should be ready to fire this thing up! I’m still waiting in my acdelco evap canister to arrive this weekend, but I wanna turn this thing over already!
No it didn’t. I’m reusing my original. It’s still in really great shape and isn’t leaking. I took the rubber gasket out of the cap and turned it over and it locks like it’s new!did it come with a reservoir ? and cap ?
did you see any resoviour options out there while hunting for a basic pump optioin>No it didn’t. I’m reusing my original. It’s still in really great shape and isn’t leaking. I took the rubber gasket out of the cap and turned it over and it locks like it’s new!
I should have snapped some picture of it, but the problem with these pumps is the bushing they use for the bearing surface. As the belt puts tension on the shaft it begins to wear the bushings out. The front bushing wears out on the engine side and the rear bushing wears out on the fender side effectively allowing the shaft to sit cocked to one side with the belt tension. This in turn wears out the front seal. If you were able to replace the bushing or use a roller bearing then these pumps would definitely be 100% serviceable. You could press the things out, and if you had a metal lathe I imagine you could make a new set of bronze bushings. I’m certain this is why the remanufactured units fail so quickly. And I’m sure over tightening the belt would cause premature wear on the bushings as well.Looking forward to hearing your experience. My PS is squeeking, if I oil the gap between the pulley and arbor, it quiets it for a bit. It's not like the belt is too tight. But it works fine otherwise.
