In other news, after battling with advance auto/carquest for an authorized battery warranty I got a new group 34 agm diehard battery and installed it.
Using my ‘official’ Toyoda SST I made myself a battery hold down bracket. Almost OEM... 🤣 toyotamatt will never know!!View attachment 2803020View attachment 2803021View attachment 2803022View attachment 2803023View attachment 2803024

@ToyotaMatt love those not Jap saws.

The correct teq term is Dozuki. A kerfless Japanese pull saw. If you’re not careful you’ll end up in the Toyota Memorial Hospital with missing digits or worse. 😳
If you are careful and thoughtful you can make OEM soft pine TEq parts in the field or you can master your dovetail joints in the shop. Tell me that wouldn’t make a sexy storage drawer for the rear sleeping platform...

Holy sheet… I could never get them lined up so perfect! Beautiful. Bought mine from a wooden hobby shop online.

It takes a lot of time to lay out the lines. Half blind dovetails are even harder than standard dovetails. It’s all in making sure your boards are perfectly square and making sure you lay everything out JUST right. Then you’ve gotta have scary sharp chisels to set the crisp shoulders. Then you can start cutting with the saw. You leave just a hair of material next to the chisel shoulder and once the majority of the waste is dawn out, you come back with the chisel and clean it up to the shoulder. Then you use that tail layout to mark out your pins. You need to use a very sharp and very straight marking tool for this. Then you repeat the process for the pins. Then you carefully fine tune the tails and pins until you get a snug finish. The key is sharp tools and once you set your shoulder don’t touch it until you’re ready for your final cut. Once it’s cut.... DONT TOUCH IT AGAIN! Match the pins to the tails. Not the other way around. At least that’s how I’ve learned it. I haven’t done it in a long time so I’m probably really rusty.
I made a magnetic dovetail saw guide in school that helped me keep the saw square to the work piece while I made the cuts. It’s a funky shaped block with a 90 degree shelf on one side that sits on the edge of the board and then the weird angle is cut into the side of the block with magnets to hold the saw steady. I’d have to take a picture to show you I think...

These are just internet pics. You can see how it works. Cool tool.

Got a package from SOR today. Brand new Aisin pcv valve and grommet. Installed.
Got my fuel pressure gauge as well. Installed.

Got my distributor dropped in and reset the valve timing. Everything feels nice now. Last time I did it when the engine was hot. I know you’re suppose to do it hot but I hate fighting the time. Maybe it’s just me but it feels like the screw moves more when you’re tightening the nut when it’s hot making it more difficult to get the adjuatments just right across the board. Some of the valves were too tight from last time I did it so I made sure to err on the side of slightly loose.

I have an ACDelco charcoal canister coming with a new vacuum valve to complete the evap system. My factory canister is not functioning well so it’s time to get that under control. I’ve been having issues with pressure in the tank for years now and keep putting it off.

I have a brand new Toyota fuel sending unit from cityracer to install tomorrow. Right before I parked the truck my fuel gauge was jumping around from 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank, so we’ll get after it now. I’ll need to take the top off my sleeping platform to access the tank from above so I’ll snap some pictures of what I’ve got going on there for ya’ll.

And by the end of the week I should have a “new” steering pump I picked up from rockauto. I was having trouble getting ahold of Georg for the Saginaw conversion kit so I just grabbed a “Toyota” pump. It’ll get me down the road for a while till I’m ready to do the Saginaw mods.

Still a lot of work to do, but I’m getting pretty darn close! I’ll snap some pics and post them tomorrow. I hate sitting around waiting...

In other news I no longer work for the puzzle company. 😕 I took a two week vacation and that has turned into a month long vacation... if you can call this vacation... I think I’ve walked 60 miles in the past three weeks. They were hounding me and getting coercive about my “medical status” (to put it like that) and I felt they were crossing some ethical and legal lines anyhow. Not to mention I started out at $12 an hour and worked my way up to $25 an hour over 5 years. They’re hiring new people with zero woodworking experience at $18 effectively rendering my knowledge and expertise in the industry useless. It’s okay. I’ll figure things out.

Our 60's are weird. The blue button on your dash won't light up without a tach signal. You don't really need AC idle up, the Sniper will adjust rpm to keep steady. There might be a doodad on the ac circuit board that you have to cut. Lucky you don't have to worry about for a few months. Somebody here hopefully will chime in.

I’m not using the AC wire. The Sniper compensates automatically and maintains idle fine. Just make sure to follow the idle setting procedure with the AC off. Then when you turn in the AC, the sniper will automatically adjust the IAC to maintain idle. You’ll see the IAC rise in the sniper screen when AC cycles on.

I know a cabinet shop who would hire you tomorrow
Where? I was about to go down to O’reilly and jump on with them for a few paychecks and then transfer out of state. I want to go to Montana and learn timber frame construction.
