Back to the Heritage Parts program. One of the innovators behind it (and Cheif Engineer of the 200 and late model 7x platforms) is coming to the US and on to Baja next month. I'm very excited to get to spend more time with him and perhaps learn about more plans they have for this program.

good morning Kurt ,

i am wondering why i may have been the ONLY Land Cruiser Owner Operator to suggest TOYOTA make the most basic of all parts available again " SEAT BELTS " ?

i would think this topic alone would have been the # 1 Parts offering day 1 priority , instead of metal tail lamp stone rock guards ........ 🤔

any input from you is always valued my friend :)

kindly ,
matt

I've been a die hard Toyota fan for many years. How come I've never had the opportunity to talk with higher ups at Toyota? Help influence product? Maybe convince them to build something I would actually buy? Why do they make models for the USA that prove that they have only talked to middle management pavement pounders that only want to look cool? Its a self fulfilling prophecy....they don't make anything I want to buy today, so I would not be one of those 300 'late model' owners to speak with.
Just because they have carted some new designs around the country and received some feedback, that is no way to state 'that the people have spoken'
Even been to a SEMA show? Lots of new money douches spend lots of money on wacked out stuff, things with no real substance, no lasting value, way too complicated, and will never be successful in the overall market. The new flashy, lack of substance ideas can only get you so far.

Maybe add a more bare bones stripped down model of the 4runner/tacoma, a 4 door removable top/doors something on 32" tires or so (take sales from Ford and Jeep...make that $$$), offer a real manual trans on more models, a way less douchy transformer style grill that won't look old and out of place 2 years later, focus more on reliability and serviceability than how many LED lights and fake vents you can strap to it, sell the 300 series here and let us have all the trim options, from base model to wild. For petes sake...Toyota takes the time to offer a body kit and TRD badge on a Camry (because racecar?).....they could at least HEAR what the TRUE gear heads want.

And yea....the 200 series electronics do cause problems. The 100 and 200 series that are still kicking in the abusive world markets are less burdened with egregious amounts of tech and ECUs. Why do I want $1000 swoopy headlight units that will inevitably glitch, be expensive to repair, and will become obsolete? I don't. Give me 6" round headlights that will be usable and configurable for decades.....you know, on a land cruiser.

The seat belts are made by a third party company named Takata. I remember reaching out to them several years ago. Some crazy lady answered the phone basically telling me to f*** off, so that was the end of that . The company filed for bankruptcy in 2017.

I've bought a number of new vehicles. Think the real question should be if Toyota imported a stripped down basic 70 series would people buy. I know I would have if Toyota followed thru and made a PX10. Took a look at the FJ Cruiser the day they showed up at the dealership and said no thanks. The New access can Toyota bought in 2000 had the same rear doors which weren't much better than a two door. The 1983 FJ40 sold in the US was almost as expensive as the FJ60. Within a couple hundred dollars. Was right at double what a CJ jeep was selling for. They also only brought in a couple hundred of them. Far as I know they all sold with no problem. 1983 was towards the end of my first marriage. If it wasn't such a bad time in my life and realized what was happing would bought one instead of a Volvo 760 GLE. Some one at Toyota decided America would rather have a 4 cylinder 4Runner. The 86 model no longer had a solid axle up front. Toyota's first attempt at a full size pickup was the T100. That had no V8 option. Didn't take a rocket science to realize the full size truck buyer in the US wanted a V8. Today the Tundra competes with full size gas pickups. Heard Toyota was about ready to jump into the diesel market using a Toyota diesel when VW got caught cheating on emissions. Then heard Toyota was in the works to install a Cummings diesel in the Tundra when Chrysler got caught. Tundra as yet to try and compete in full line up.

1958 Toyota first imported the Toyopet and FJ25. When the Land Cruiser switched to FJ40 they dropped the Toyopet.Toyota build it foundation in America on the Land Cruiser. Then in 1965 got back into the car market with the Crown. 1967 was the end of the FJ45 here in the US. In the seventies when Toyota started diesels, FF rear axles and granny transmissions none were imported to the US. I am still of the opinion Toyota's original plan was to be a small car leader in the US. Once the Crown took off the Land Cruiser became secondary. I know the big three three has political influence and emissions played a part in it. But how bad Toyota wanted to sell the Land Cruiser played in there as well. Today Chrysler is owned by Fiat an Italian company. After 2007 not sure who all owns GM with everything GM was doing in China. In today's market Toyota is one of the big boys. Until they dropped the LC for 2023 they only imported a luxury version. This was by design not that they couldn't import a basic Land Cruiser 110/200 series that would meet all the emissions and safety requirements. So I feel that Toyota has turned it's back on the middle class. Middle class could afford the FJ40 in the sixties and seventies. Toyota anyone in the middle class who spends six figures on a new car is living beyond their means. From what I've seen this Heritage program is a joke. Nothing is easy or reasonably priced that I've seen.

Definitely on my list, I believe it was on the list I got from Onur too. I'd have to go look at my notes.

My dealer says the part number for an FJ40 windshield is no good (product is NLA). But, these guys claim they are making them. Has anyone ordered FJ40 glass from a dealer lately?

It's about $200.00 to have a glass company cut you one and install. At least that's what they got me for.

I started in the early part of this thread and jumped to the end. Simple question because I run into issues all the time.

Did they include the HJ45 on the heritage program? Simple things like oil filters are NLA and I’ve bought many of the remaining stock. But it’s not the only obsolete part.

Curious if anyone knows.

Also are any of the Toyota people supporting this included on these forums?

I've purchased a few in my day. I still have two of them. They were the simplest vehicles I could find at the time. The first a diesel powered pick-up with a manual tranny, manual windows and door loks, rubber floor mats, and a vinyl interior currently with 200K+ miles. I did 450 miles in it today. The second was a Jeep with an inline six and as simple as the truck - currently at 160K+ miles. I'll double that mileage on both before they are worn out. I would have bought a PX10 that Living in the Past mentioned above in a heartbeat if they'd been available. I might have even sold off my 40 for a second. Now I'm in the market for a basic four-door wagon but there's really nothing out there. I'm certainly not interested in anything Toyota currently offers in the U.S.. I'd love to buy from Mr T. but it's like they're trying to out gimmick late model Jeeps. All that plastic is gonna go micro and be swrling around in my drinking water in short order. And everything is way too over-designed. Have you seen a new Forerunner or Tacoma? Fricken' uggo. Maybe that's just me.

Ah, but you'd be missing that little "Toyota" etching in the corner. I suffer with a small chip in my field of view as I stil have OEM front glass.

Agree, genuine windshields last longer than all the others, I have had both. Waiting to get a new windshield as I am rebuilding my FJ40.

I ordered from a Toyota dealer a year or so ago. There were only a few remaining left in the country. It is just flat safety glass, pretty much any glass shop could probably just cut you one.

Cool to see Justin bring that over to SEMA but what does that actually mean for future Toyota vehicles? probably nothing. I keep hearing a new "land cruiser" is in the works for USA from actual Toyota Dealers but nothing more than that. Do you know something we don't know Kurt? Its like the Land Rover commercials using old Defenders to promote the new one, they couldn't be more different vehicles. I don't know man. The passion for the heritage wheelers is so strong and other brands are reading that vibe but Toyota doesn't seem to get it. Toyota could make some serious waves if they tried again and got it right. Something similar to 70 series in a 2 door, 4 door and 4 door truck variant. Jeep does it successfully, how Toyota couldn't do it better is beyond me.
