Toyo MT - Road Snow Input

It's time for my next set of tires. I've been running Trxus MT's for years, specifically because they are so good in the snow, as in "head and shoulders above the BFG AT in the snow", both icy hardpack and deep offroad. But I'd like to run the Toyos for the obvious reason: roundness. They are the same weight as the Trxus, so my only real concern is snow usage.

For those who have Toyo MT's, and particularly those who live in the Rockies and deal with a lot of icy hardpack in a wide range of temps (well below zero to 50 degree days), what is your impression?

I'd particularly like feedback from anybody who has run Trxus and the Toyos (just the snow part, I get the round part), and how the tires hold up to serious crawling with the center lugs aftermarket siped as well as winter performance with that siping. If the tires hold up well, and the siping brings them up to around the performance of the Trxus MT, it would be a no brainer.

Appreciate any input, I like what the Toyo has to offer and have asked about winter performance on a number of threads, but a clear answer eludes me, outside of the occasional "as good as BFG AT", which is not anywhere near good enough as I've had too many close calls, not to mention the compound freezing, with BFG AT's in the past.

Thanks
Nay, I am current evaluating tire options and would appreciate your insight. I live in Idaho and would like a mud tire for the muddy conditions of the Owyhee desert during the fall and spring but also need a tire that will perform in snow and ice during ski trips. I have been leaning toward the ToYo Mt - getting mixed reviews from local tire stores on siping but unsure. Do you have a recommendation on a tire from your experience- BFG’s and Coopers are popular locally. Thank you for your insight

If you are looking at other tire options that are also mud terrain type tread, I would stay away from the Cooper STT Pro. Absolutely the worst MT tire I've ever run. I'm on my second set of the Toyo MT and they have become one of my favorite tires. For winter driving they will benefit from some added siping. I've had several sets of different tires siped at the tire store. All of them have been fine with the extra siping and none have had chunking issues that some say is possible. I've been happy with the winter performance here in Utah of the Toyo, and BFG KM tires after having them siped. I still wouldn't say they are a replacement for a dedicated winter tire but for a MT with large tread blocks they have done alright.

I know the Interco Trxus is a popular MT tire for it's winter performance. The relatively new Milestar Patagonia MT is another tire that seems to do well in the winter.

My first snow experience in the TOYO this year was amazing. 2’+ of snow and they were 1000 X better than the last tires I had. They were BFG MTR KM2 and the absolute worse tire I have ever had, every thing about them sucked. TOTO are quiet on the highway and considering they are still around 12 years after this original post says something. Only downside I see is weight.

I am running toyo MT's in southwest Montana. Plenty of snow on the roads. I had the toyos siped. They perform better than the unsiped Cooper st max I ran before the toyos.
I was worried about them on packed snow, but have been pleasantly surprised in their performance.

Milestar Patagonia MT. I am getting 1 mpg better highway on 38s (13-14), outstanding in winter conditions, load range C means they ride nice at the higher range PSI keeping the tire on the unbroken center thread, very quiet.

In our March blizzard, they were awesome (and also new). I can’t speak to long term performance, we had them out in wet wheeling in my son’s Tacoma and they were excellent.

There is ice underneath in both of these extraction vids, which is why the vehicles are off the road. About as ugly as it gets.

This pic was me almost getting stuck going to pull out my son, but they pulled out of over 2’. Perfect amount of pull without digging too much.
