Banks. On top of my most detested list just above insurance companies. Both are high and mighty and don't give a rosy red rats rectum about their customers.
My wife died on 12/6 after a long and tough 9 year battle with dementia. Her November SS check arrived on 12/11 right on time from the Treasury Dept. When I checked the balance on 12/20 to pay my monthly bills I found the $'s had been removed and returned to the Treasury. I had an appointment with SS yesterday and they assured me that nether the SSA or the Treasury Dept. had requested the return of funds. So I called Pinnacle and after a long hold the lady came back to explain that any funds received after the date of death are returned. So if I had a paycheck deposited they would have returned that as well. She explained. "that is just how we do it and SS will return the payment". As slow as the SSA moves it will be several months before that happens.
I'm not destitute and will get over the monetary glitch but I am appaled at the over reach of Pinnacle to single highhandedly reach into the account and remove funds without any authorization except for the authorization they had in their own minds. I do have four accounts with Pinnacle and will start the search for a new bank after the first of the year.

Ive been through that this year. It was confusing as hell to get an invoice stating we had to give back money that will be returned to us later in an adjusted amount.
That’s terrible. It’s not how it happened to us, for some reason. Different banks, I guess.

I am with you on the banks David, they make up policy as they go and it never ever benefits the customer.
I went through this recently.
-I drive up to the window, do not recognize the teller nor the other two tellers at the counter.
-Present my check and deposit slip and I am told these funds will not be available for 7 business days.
-Pardon?
-I go in, speak with the manager, also new and she tells me she is unsure of the check.
-Unsure? Huh? A business check drawn on Citi Bank, the very same account of numerous checks I have deposited for a while.
-She can not find the deposits on her computer, sends me home to retrieve similar check stubs and deposit slips. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
-I need the funds in the account sooner than that if possible
-So I go get it, bring it back and her assistant tells me no problem, funds available tomorrow.
-The old crow manager says this to me "See how easy that was"
-She also tells me that all the other tellers and managers left together leaving us customers in a rut
-This is at Entegra Bank, that had bought out Arthur State. Turns out Arthur state came back to town and all employees left to back to Arthur State.
-I opened a new account at Arthur State, drew down my account at Entegra to under $100 and went in to close my account.
-Don't ya know, they send me to the Old Crow, who asks me during the procedure "May I inquire as to why you are closing your account?"
-I replied "Certainly, because of you maam, sending me home like a school boy for paper work when any new teller could have found them on your computers. Because of you"
-All the smug drained from her face.
-On the way out the door I said " Now see how easy that was, be sure to report this to your superiors! "

Who has been there to look up something about a 1988 Trooper common fuel rail torque specs only to leave the site and buy a new vehicle because it's less pain? I'd rather use the DIY at-home neuter kit from Rust Crafters International than depend on that site and my elementary search skills.

David, I had the same thing happen with my wife's SSA check. I called after I got the notice to call them...Middle of December, After about an hour of hearing "Just looking at some information", and "I'm still here" she got me a first available phone appointment at noon on January 31st. She said that was the only way to get the $255.00. I told her, "I could have gone out and made more than that in the time I've wasted on the phone with you." They accually drafted the money back out of her account, though.
Back to bad drivers.....I was stopped at a red light yesterday with a trailer load of debris (small 5 x 10 trailer) when the truck lurched forward about a foot.
Looked in my mirror to see a newish Silverado had just run into the trailer.I wasn't worried about the trailer, so I just pulled off at green. He got beside me and did apoligize, and said he couldn't see the trailer over the hood of his truck. wtf, REALLY !!

Had a guest cook in my kitchen this evening who didn't know that there are limits to what can be run through a garbage disposal. Made quite the mess when it violently blew back up through both drains. It was still clogged as hell though, so I went to the crawlspace to access the cleanout. It wasn't budging. Rather than risk excessive force or flame on 50 year old cast iron pipe I simply removed the bend and the cleanout sections (about 18" total) by their no hub connections and snaked the drain well. Went to Lowe's for some replacement no hubs and went back down below to reinstall. Whoops. Turns out there's a massive crack that was mostly concealed by the no hub in the next downstream section of pipe but I would never have found otherwise anyway until it was too late.
So now I get to decide how far downstream I want to go with a PVC replacement. The cracked pipe section is about 15' to the nearest connection so I have that far, at least, to go because I have no intention of trying to cut cast iron to save a few bucks. I guess I'll decide when I see what's hiding under the next no hub.
2.5hrs so far counting the Lowe's trip and I still need to clean/flush/reinstall the disposal, reinstall all the under cabinet pipes, replace the crawlspace sections, educate somebody on proper waste disposal techniques, and try not to poison myself with 50 years of accumulated gunk in the pipes. Ugh. But at least I found the problem before it became a problem.

Replace as much as you can with schedule 40 PVC. You want to at least eliminate the pipe that has already stressed, cracked or broken. Go to where it ends or connects. If you can replace that. Replace it. Once you get to a point that will be a considerable amount of work. That’s where I would stop.
that’s what I would do. A few bucks of PVC pipe, glue, and primer and a little extra work now will pay off in the long run.

Well I guess I will add one. About an hour ago, it’s midnight now, I got done replacing the gears on the driver seat I attached the bottom piece to the frame and and attach the top part to the frame. I bolt it down with 2 out of the 4 bolts and look for bolt 3 and 4 and nothing.
I looked everywhere and nothing.
I got so frustrated that now I’m just sitting here drinking A beer and trying to figure out where I left those two bolts. I want to go to bed because I have to go to the gym at 0600 but I know I won’t be able to fall asleep thinking about those two dam bolts And where they possibly went.
I hate loose ends.

I have saved up a bunch of little plastic bowls, about 5-6" diameter and maybe 3" deep. Mostly from take out etc. EVERY time I remove even one bolt it goes in a bowl, period. If it is going to be a while before re install it then gets bagged and tagged.
I've lost sleep for the same reason Del and it'll drive you nuts.
Installed a new toilet. I made sure I had all I needed, wax ring, curb bolts, toilet supply line @16". It's a tall toilet and I measured it at the store for supply line. Install the thing only to find that the valve at the floor has a 1/2" compression instead of a 3/8" compression. DAMN. It's an under sink valve. Off to Chesnee hardware I go with the old hose in hand. No luck. I did get an adapter from the valve so i could get it operational until I get the proper hose. No luck.
Off to Lowes in Boiling Springs, found one in 12" , not long enough. Guy working there tells me they don't have hoses like that. I show him the one in my hand that I found on the shelf. Again he tells me they do not have those hoses. The old man, retired plumber that was helping me out tells the guy we just found it right there, pointing. Again "we do not have those hoses. Old guy says "please go away young man" to the Lowes guy.
Off to Home Depot in Spartanburg. They have what I need, lots of them in 12" and 20", no 16". So I settled for the 20". Two and and a half hours later I arrive home and 5 minutes later job is done.
Guy at Chesnee hardware told me, "It's plumbing Stan, requires at least three trips before you are done" He's a profit for sure
