There is a thread in the chat section where a guy had his 80 fall on him because the jack stands failed. He was using something similar to harbor freight type stands and they were 3000 lb rated.

Similar to these they are rated in pairs and are expected to be used as such and on a level hard surface.

He was right at the edge of their rating and they had some age on them.

Passed inspection today : )

Great Lane!

Got my truck together, ran the cable but I'm sure it will need some fiddling. After spending an hour on my back trying to route the cable under the truck I wound up going up through the cargo floor then up the center of the truck inside. Left plenty of slack for suspension flex (I hope). Have the lever mounted (perhaps temporarily) in the cupholder. I think it will work.

Didn't have any new gear oil so I can't refill the pumpkin and test it out until tomorrow. Need it to drive to work on Wednesday so tomorrow night is IT for big changes.

I'm cautiously optimistic. :)

GRRRRR, tranny hangs a bit lower than the old one.
Skid plate won't bolt up. Just going to buy some longer bolts
and some steel and shim it down for now.

Got the diff pulled and all sealed up last night. :D

Just gotta pull the top off and we are good to go.

sold the FJ-62 to someone doing a frame off refurb

starter just went on 4runner. this one lasted a whole 13 months.

hj-45 also down for coolant flush and recirc heater replacement.

Got the TrXus 35's put on the 55 today. Way easier to drive and much quieter than the 36" swampers. All set for some leaching field wheeling at Gretchen's. Bled the clutch finally. ready to drive but not ready to wheel yet.

No pics = USELESS!

on some of these trucks there is a starter relay that gives a bad signal to the starter and wears them out, FAST i went threw 6 Toyota starters before i fount that POS

Ha Ha you said you could hear me coming a mile away.

Got the pumpkin all filled and buttoned up, took a drive, no strange noises. Fiddled around in a dirt parking lot trying to get the diff locked with the cable and couldn't. That will take some fiddling still and I didn't want to inadvertently mess anything up as I have to drive it to work tomorrow.

1 more workday until FG for me! :D

Sears bolt outs are crap. I tried to use them today and they simply do not work. It would not grab the bolt at all. Would just slip off. Total ripoff. I'm gonna try and return them.

dammit.... I didn't secure the now unused wires that went to the elocker and one of them wrapped around my drive shaft enough to tug it free. No damage to the pinion that I can see, it wasn't wrapped tight at all, but that kills any chance I had of repairing that sensor plug.

dummy mistake.

A bit of vibration from the cable at highway speeds, I'll do some adjusting tonight after I load up the truck. I figured out that my mounting in-cab is totally wrong but no time to "fab up" a proper mount. I may wind up pulling the cable off and just locking it by hand at the trial head right at the diff.

didn't want to see this thread go by the way side. been busy since hte FG. swapped out my rear stock axle for an jf62 rear axle (thanks Gary) and thanks Mike F for coming over to spear head the swap. took pretty much all of Columbus day to get it done. ended up my rdb brackets would not work so I had to order some and wait a few days patiently for them. got them in and finished the swap. . I still need to get the sway bar reconnected to the axle. I have the new brackets from ruff stuff just need to rebuild them into what I need. they are actually 3" axle- 4 link suspension brakets but I wanted them for the 3" radius on the mounting surface and can fab the rest into what I need.

so the new axle means i no longer need the spider trax 1.5" wheel spacers yeah!!! but it meant that hte divers side tire rubbed on the exhaust pipe boo!!!. so it ends up that due to my saggining rear springs my sway bar actually had squished hte exhaust pipe on the trail at FG so I pulled the rear exhaust pipe bent it back into shape then mounted it a bit better added another hanger so its strapped into shape and in the right spot. very pleased. (thanks again Mike F for getting the exhaust buttoned up the week before the FG)

So FG was a good shake down on the trail for the old girl my tierod ends I had not replaced and really showed there age so today I replaced them and put a man-a-fre beefy tierod in. easy swap and the old tierod was actually bent glad I won't have that issue anymore. seems the truck tracks better and does not catch the ruts like it was doing.

also Jim C helped me tune her up a bit seems my $OR pcv valve hose gave up the ghost and was causing a vacume leak so I replaced it with a OEM one and changed out the spark plugs and it seems to be running very nicely these days. so I have had some productive cruiser sessions in the garage. still a list of things to do but keep checking them off.

Kina finished the SOA yesterday which was very half-assedly done by the PO. The rear springs were saggy and turns out one was from a 55 and one was from a 60.

The rear spring replacements are a pair of 55 springs I got from a guy in CA which turned out to actually be 60 series springs with sleeves inside. Either way they worked great. The back end has probably been raised up about 4 inches from where it was before.

Shackles on the front are a big help now obviously. All the rattles in the truck are essentially gone and I don't have to hold my breath anymore when hitting bumps.

Camera broke. Pics soon.
