...It looks to me like you guys are about ready for a set of Mark's Off Road shackles, u-bolt skidplates and bump stop extensions for that suspension. Say the word and they'll be on the way to Tom's. I'd send them to Jon, but he needs them too!;p

Hey Mark -

The plan is to rebuild the axles and clean up the frame. Maybe Santa will bring us the knuckle bearings, front hub seal, and inner front axle seal Tom noted above (NOT you, but Santa; you've done more than enough!).

The Raffle truck appears to have stock leaf springs with ridiculously long shackles so we are in dire need of the items you have generously offered. We have an old set of no name mystery somewhat pitted springs that will need a great deal of clean-up. If we can get a set of Ironman springs we will probably sell these old ones to raise funds for paint and body work supplies.

Have a great holiday!

Jon

Hey Guys,
I spent part of today going thru drawers and boxes to see what I could find for the raffle truck

Have / Need
1- front rotor seal / 1- more
1-inner axle seal / 1- more
1- OEM front gasket kit
2- front axle outer bearings, if needed / possibly may need inner bearings
/ need Knuckle bearings
rear axle bearings, seals
OEM gasket kit for 4 spd tranny
enough cork and paper diff gaskets to
do a few cruisers

pardon me for my computer skills

Great work guys, it is so cool to see this project making progress.

What is a Rotor seal? Is that a birfield axle seal? If so I have a bunch I can donate. When you say "OEM Front Gasket Kit" are we talking about the gaskets and seals for the hubs and rotors? If so I have a bunch of spares I can donate. Are you sure you need rear wheel bearings? They seldom wear out. I also have diff gaskets and seals I can donate. What's the address to send stuff to? I think I had it in an email when I sent my check but that was a long time ago and I'm getting old LOL!

Sorry about the confusion. Here is what we need for the front end. We have the rear bearings if needed

77 fj40 raffle truck

Front rotor seal aka front axle wheel seal 1 ea
inner axle seal aka birfield seal 1 ea.
knuckle bearings 4 ea.
frnt axle outer bearings 2 ea.

Thanks, Tom

If you're talking about the front and rear we're still needing the parts listed in post 143

Does anyone know if we have the rest of the parts for this project ?

Everything else we need is posted on the Raffle Truck - Parts Needed thread.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/va-dc-md-c...ub/463518-tlca-raffle-truck-parts-needed.html

Most of what remains are the items Tom mentions above, as well as:

  • Emblems
  • Turn Signal assembly (one needed)
  • Rear side marker lights (both needed)
  • License plate light
  • Parking brake cable

Other items are mostly maintenance items such as:
  • Brake shoes (parking and 4 wheel)
  • Brake lines
  • Brake rotors
  • u-joints

I have a parking brake cable on my '78. Still have to get it off, but if it will work y'all can have it.

Wow! Thanks John! Do you want me to swing by and pick it up this weekend? We will be rebuilding the axles next weekend and could install it then.

Depending on when that diff cover was made, it may not fit.:frown:

I just got done being an unplanned part of RuffStuff's R&D team on this product after they shipped me two units to install that wouldn't fit.

Hey Guys,

Just to give you an update. I've ordered the parts we were missing for the front and rear from Miller. Should have them here by Fri. I was a bit late getting with Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters and was afraid we would not get the parts on time, will get with him for another order at a later date to see how he can help.
Made a quick trip to Lovettsville and got the parking brake cable from Eric (offcamberfj). Found a couple nice wineries on the way home. We should also have some Aisin hubs coming from Sean (67azcruizr).
I'd like to thank these guys and everyone else who has been helping us out in aquiring parts.

,
Tom

I'll be there around 10AM... I'm not sure if you guys will be using a newer front axle from a donor or the original axle from the 1977. If you are using the original from the '77, I have some small pattern disk brake knuckles including housing, steering arms and spindles and a single (left side, I think) backing plate that have all been sandblasted and primed. This could save some time with the axle work and provide some spares to go with the truck.
Also, what tools do you guys usually bring to minimize the "who's using the 12mm box wrench" issues?

We had a great turn out today. Thanks to all who showed and pitched in!

We completely disassembled front and rear axles, removing third members, and thoroughly cleaning all parts. We scraped gaskets off front and rear housings, installed new rear axle seals, and have everything ready for reassembly (next time!).

Here's why TLC owners remove the front axle hub sleeve--it's a rust collector!

Great time today guys; thank you for the warm welcome! I'm looking forward to pulling more wrenches on this project. Whoever wins this rig is going to be one luck S-O-B.
TRFCSUX and SAS were warriors today and are responsible for 95% of the axle teardown.
BTW, That guy in the IronPig hoodie in the 2nd to last pic is me... Offcamber might be offended to have me mistaken for him.

Cheers,
-Stump
