success

I drove home this evening in my new 95. I picked this rig up from RedCheetah in Riverside. It was a beautiful ride home on the 215 to the 15. Front drive shaft was making noise and the fan belt was too, the front visor is saggy..it all was very charming to me.:) My new Tundra just didn't have that vibe, I am really happy to be back behind the wheel. There is some work to be done and it's going to start this week hopefully.

John at SD Trux was very helpful in the selection process.
I am looking at the following to get started:

:wrench:valve cover gasket, pads and rotors front, pads rear, heater hoses, fan belts, fix rear locker, balance wheels, solve floppy sun visor... Also need to address the suspension, its a little soft for me and rolls a bit, not forgetting to mention the noises coming from the DS. Oh and my socal 80s sticker, which i happen to have a spare of, must have been my destiny..:D

The only real fix for the floppy sun visor IMHO is a new one for a pretty penny. But this has gotten me by for the last couple of years. Of course I only pull down the visor when I really need it and my sun shade has a loop on it that I put on the visor hook rather than swinging the visor down to hold the shade.

thanks

Thanks Dan! I remember running into you at the gas station by Gelato Vero, the day I decided to sell the FJ and get the FZJ.

Today I got the wheels balanced, bad wobble at 40-50 mph. Put the socal 80's sticker on. I went to Chula and got a pair of visors from the junk yard for $60. There are two 91's there, some stuff left. No more vanity mirror on my side but I am not too self conscious :hillbilly:

woo hoo

Got the cruiser back from John @ SD Trux today. Thumbs up as usual. Its ready for a run.:steer: I will wait patiently for it too cool down and for Coyote Canyon to open up. In the meantime there are still some kinks to work out.

1. Drop spacer for sway bar
2. new shocks to firm up the ride/eliminate the stink bug.
3. DS windshield sprayer not working.
4. Slee interior mount for spare.

Thats about it for now. I am wondering if there is a front/rear spring combo that I can work to remove the stink bug stance. I have J's front and rear. Maybe a shorter spring in the rear to level it? Anyone have a suggestion?

talking to myself

Yes Zach that is precisely the idea. I have resorted to answering my own questions:doh: I ordered new L shocks for the front and heavies for the rear along with the 863s for the rear to lessen the rake. I went with Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters, great price and a very good businessman.

More specifically 863 springs to replace 863J in rear and lower the ass end, then N74E shocks in rear to replace Monroes. For the front N74L shocks to go with the J springs. I am hoping to loose the body roll, squat, dive... etc. Kurt assured me that many people buy this set up from him. The squishy ride actually makes the truck feel slower to me.

I am just excited to get my new cruiser dialed in and enjoy flapping about it, as long as no one minds me carrying on;).

There is something to learn from this suspension tuning and I will post some before and after pics for sure. I will keep everyone posted!

As with a lot of things you get what you pay for. After having the comp kit, I do see the value in the stiffer springs (Slee, Frankies, Comp). My last cruiser had surprisingly good handling at 5" of lift. The problem with that option now is that if you get those stiffer springs your going to get more lift = DC drive shaft and so on. I can't afford it at this time. :meh:

Thanks guys. SD meet and greet for sure...

Hey Zach - Glad to see the rig is working out for you. The only regret I have of selling it is that I can't keep my ass from looking for a new rig in the classified sections 20 times a day now:doh:.

I know, I still look even though I have one. When I sold mine I didn't go near this site for about 5 months, too painful. Its just a matter of time before you get another...

BTW did you get the dog pics I emailed you?
