Well it finally happened, I decided to buy my first Land Cruiser. Most of you know my buddy “Darwink1” as he has a few builds on Ih8mud already. I’ve helped him out here and there with his builds over the years and he’s been pretty adamant about getting me out of Jeeps and into Land cruisers. I’ve been eyeballing this pig on the local classifieds for about 4 years, then when I wrote off my jeep last month (young kid made an illegal left hand turn and I t-boned him) I had to start looking for a new project. So called the guy up talked price and a few days later it was on the back of a trailer heading home.

The big problem is the previous owner thought it was a good idea to chop the roof. I’m thinking he took out 3-5 inches. Other than that she’s mint! Before he chopped the roof he spent some time and $ on her. Barely any surface rust for a 43 year old pig. The more I inspect it the more little stuff I find, but pretty solid starting point for my next build/project. The overall plan is to make a daily driver that is off road capable.

I went around today taking a few pix and I’m looking for feedback. Don’t be shy to comment! Good, bad, it doesn’t matter to me. She is what she is and I’ve got some big plans with her! One of the first major things to tackle is to get that roof back to regular height.

I’ll start with pix and as I decide more about the overall plans I’ll keep the thread updated.

Congrats amigo!

I'll probably be picking up a parts rig in the near future that I'd be able to cut all the pillars out if you're interested.

I agree to unshop the poor little piggie. Parhaps to minimise the work you could make a 4 doors pickup like an Avalanche.

The chop actually looks sort of cool... the underside of that thing is perfect!! Especially for Canada.

How's the head room. Are you short??? No ofence intended.

In 1973 I had a 72 pig and added I think it was 2" spacers to the seat supports and I was 6'2" at the time. Did it to my 40 also. Thinking about doing it to my current 55. Maybe a chop is the ticket. Or not

I'm still in the Planning and dreaming stage. Go outside look at it for a bit and try to imagine exactly what I want to do. I said the first major project would be to lift the roof back up. That’s probably not going to be until next fall or winter. Going to try and get it certified and on the road by summer and use it as a "Sunday driver" for this summer while I look into getting the parts I want/need. I got a friend that works in a glass shop and I’ll see if he can figure something out for a "Chopped windshield" before I do anything crazy. Lowering the seat is a must if I plan to rock the chop for the summer, but doing that I'll lose a lot of visibility.
It took a little bit of work and tinkering but I got it started the other day (First time she ran in a year or so). She needs some carb work and a timing adjustment. 4X4 isn't working either so I’ll have to look into that. Front driveshaft spins but not engaging the wheels. In the next few weeks when I find time and ambition to work in the snow filled driveway ill investigate 4X4.
