I don't understand why you boys don't realize that bailing wire, duct tape, and wd40 are about all the tools needed to repair a 40! Carry them with me every where I go!

Can't find the picture of what I want but tie downs came in real handy on steering box to get me back to camp! Believe it or not I didn't have bailing wire on board.

You forgot zip ties!
I'm all about Trail fixes.. but...

Trail fixes already has its own thread. Just needs to be resurrected. I've got plenty to share there too, but it really is another subject.

Trail fixes include salvaged PCV hoses repurpoused as power steering return hoses.

Thanks again Mark:rofl:

My next contribution is currently residing at the shop. Carb work, plus a little extra. I traced the hard-start issue to missing stopper and counterweight in the accel pump circuit. But the high speed hesitation issue? Well, see for yourself

Homemade fuel line, with almost every bend collapsed. I will replace this with a new rubber line and see if that cures the problem before moving on to the 46 year old tank.

Am I the only person who reads this thread and realizes they might have done things in the past that would be posted here?

Nope ;)

Where to start? My PO had the 78 2F engine rebuilt with a 74 head. Shoddy wiring throughout. Giant monstrosities welded onto the front and back of the truck. Had giant spacers on which snapped the lugs off while driving down the interstate...

This is my latest find. He just riveted a new floor pan over the existing floor. I guess to fill in a void, he used quikcrete then slathered a ton of bedliner over everything.

The driver's side is just a piece of aluminum riveted into the floor.

Great thread to read guys! Makes me feel like I'm not alone on fixing my previous owners lack of intelligence!

Here's a few of my best so far

Just one of the many birds nests I've found, live wires everywhere!

Warped flanges as a result of hardware store bolts used on a drivetrain.

At least he was on top of his servicing schedules

No words for this one...

I was doing just fine until I got to the last pic and spit up my coffee!

Wow, just wow.

How about these steering solutions, both on the same 40.
Bolts are overrated.......

Now THAT is WOS worthy. I would pay shipping to have that on the wall.

I persume its the second photo you are talking about.;)
I still have to take it off and find a replacement.
Don't know if it will come off but I might find a way to get it over here, we have a weekly shipment from te Netherlands to New York, I might be able to put it in there and ave them sent it through.

Great thread Mark, keep em coming. On a side note, but possibly a WOS candidate, looks like Trump is paving the way for them to pump all that water out from under the desert.
