On that topic, that is why, i believe, the HJ61 is the PERFECT Land Cruiser. Whenever those "80 vs blank" threads pop up, I always think HJ61...

Fully Manual, no electronics to leave you stranded
High Payload
Turbo Diesel
Part Time 4WD
Heavy Duty Frame and Heavy Duty Suspension (NO coils that will break)
and the option of Cable Differential Locks with full floating axles...
(undoubtedly beautiful styling )

Epitome of the Land Cruiser... Perfect.
Then you might want to know Gary is selling a very nice one with cable diff locks.

True story. I was pulling up to a light to turn left at a very busy intersection today. About 3 cars ahead was a car, I thought a Toureg. As I sat there I started to look at it, and there was something that said Toyota in the tiny amount of Sheet metal and tail light that I could see. So I started to think "Cool, a new 200", I had not seen one on the road yet. So the light changed and we turned, I came up beside it about 200 yards later. Guess what.......It's a friggin' Highlander.

So they do look alike. Even a trained eye, trying to see a 200, mistakes it for a Highlander. Damn.

Here's a way to really jack with people:

Buy a Highlander (Hybrid, of course), lift it, some knobby hides, and toss a big old rack on the roof...

To be honest, what I have noticed is that the COLOR has ALOT to do with the new LC looking like a highlander or not.

I have the Grey color. There is not a highlander I have seen any highlander in that color or in Red.

Maybe that is one of the reasons....

Ummm, probably not...

Same experience with me. I have not a small amount of experience with the later wagons. Went to the dealer to pick up a 200 brochure, they had two new LCs sitting in the forecourt that I could see through the window. Even the rear script on the rear hatch door looked the same, though I couldn't read what it actually said. Same shape of the wheel wells, bumpers - at that distance I was so sure they were LCs. Upon closer inspection, guess what...

One other note. This is one of the newest and largest dealers in the area. They said they are not going to carry the Land Cruiser. They said it was too expensive and they had no wish to have that kind of inventory sitting on the lot for 100 days or more. The only way to get one through them was to order one and have a SOLID purchase agreement. They actually told me to get a Lexus or a Range Rover if I wanted an SUV that cost that much!

I am not going to get into another debate about this...to each their own.

They're not the only one, and personally I don't think they're that dumb. $73K in inventory for ONE vehicle sitting on the books for six months is NOT a smart business move. That's not how Toyota got to be #2 in the world (soon to be #1)...

Hmmm, most enlightening !!

I Kept getting calls from my dealer all this past week trying to pressure me to come in and work a deal . That was until I told him that I wasn't about to pay that kind of money for a plebeian Toyota. I wish I could have seen his face, but there was a long bit of silence on the phone and he told me in not so many words that he sees the price as a big problem.

Not trying to diss you at all Dtt, you bought yours because you obviously felt that it fits your needs. You don't need to get any validation from any of us. All I am doing is voicing my fellings and opinions. Even though I am terribily disappointed in the looks of the thing, the price is a much bigger issue. It would seem that I am not alone on this. For me to even be considering a Lexus speaks volumes, much more that I could ever say or write.

So, now you are an expert in automobile marketing? You mean you know more than a dealer does since you have owned your vehicle what, one month ?? It's great to be enthusiastic, let's just make sure you know what you are insinuating before you make yourself look (more) foolish .

I think I would give the dealer a little more credence than an over enthusiastic first time owner.

Of course, this is all IMO. I do not wish to offend anyone !!

Of course I know better! I have 2k miles on mine!

Seriously I am just coming from a sales perspective....I have been commission sales since I was 20 (now I am 35) and I have a few rules I live by. That is why I said what I said.

Car sales people are not high on my list for being the smartest sales people.....but there are always exceptions.... :grinpimp:
