Careful! Some purists will flame you for ditching the old straight six!

Dan talks a good game, but don't worry, that FZJ will live in his 80 as long as he does!

After seeing a D4D in a Hilux at Surf and Turf, I know what my ideal next vehicle would be.

First...I don't give a crap about the shifter knob or what it looks like.

Second...Anyone who says they don't want one is lying...just because it's a Land Cruiser (and the engine).

:D

For an off-road vehicle, if I have a choice, I'd always prefer mechanical control. I once had to abandon a Rubicon run because the electronically-controlled center diff-lock on my 80 wouldn't lock. Then, at a different date, I had a solenoid go out on the rear locker making it un-selectable. That's one reason I like the Mogs so much, it never has those problems (cable lockers on the axles, no t-case to worry about).

And I don't want a 200, and I'm not lying. Not even way down deep inside. I also don't want a 45, 55, 60, or 62. A 40 or 42 would be just fine, though!

On that topic, that is why, i believe, the HJ61 is the PERFECT Land Cruiser. Whenever those "80 vs blank" threads pop up, I always think HJ61...

Fully Manual, no electronics to leave you stranded
High Payload
Turbo Diesel
Part Time 4WD
Heavy Duty Frame and Heavy Duty Suspension (NO coils that will break)
and the option of Cable Differential Locks with full floating axles...
(undoubtedly beautiful styling )

Epitome of the Land Cruiser... Perfect.

Glad you're kidding.

I don't get the joke.

I think he has some very good points. Please address them directly rather than just make a stupid non-sequitur statement like the above...

Instead of coils that break, it has leaf springs that break. In fact, I've seen a bunch of broken springs on 40 and 60 series and never seen a broken coil.

Still, I personally, would love to have an HJ61. That would be close to a perfect Cruiser for me, but then I'm not afraid to dd a 60.

First, I agree with everyone else. It should have a shifter knob, and it shouldn't look like a Highlander.

Second, anyone who says that they don't want one is lying. Just for the engine alone.
