@whitey45 ha you got it. I just saw this thread last night and was trying to figure out what was going on with the 63 lwb and I thought the other thread mentioned it that way too.

Anyways, super excited to see another shorty! Let’s get some more pics! Any grand plans for it?

Score! Great trip and memories, for sure. Keep it safe on the way home. Nothing but smiles from here on out. 😆

Late (by the full width door bead) 1963 FJ45 (by the fixed non-folding, non-removable windshield frame) SWB (by the fixed top, split rear window and bed).

Yesterday was a day that we all wish happened more often but in reality happens far too infrequently. Those where you don’t have to worry about work, get to spend time with family, get to meet great people, and see new things.

We left Redding fairly early to get down to Sutter to meet @kevos37. After meeting up with him we journeyed south and west to San Gregorio to meet @Whitey. Found a neat fresh fruit stand...my boy loves him some strawberries!!! We didn’t take the coastline route to San Gregorio, we came to inland route. I have never seen such large redwoods that up close. We took the coastline route out—wow.

For any of you that know Kevin and Brian, you already know what kind, generous people they are. For those of you that don’t now you do. Their willingness to work with me to meet on my schedule was unsparing.

Kevin hooked me up with a spare tire carrier, oil canister, and spin oil filter thingy should we choose to go that route. He gave my son a LC bezel that went through Paradise wildfires—my son loves it and it’s story when he learned what it went through.

Brian shared his extensive knowledge of 45’s and looked our old girl over closely. We got a lot of great tips and have a good direction to go. Right in line with the generosity of his time, he gave me an old dealership brochure that was for our truck. Not a repo., but instead an authentic one. Not only is it cool just in-and-of-itself, but to get it on this trip from Brian for this truck makes it UBER cool.

One last little tidbit. More for us to remember in the future when we are reminiscing...it was EXTREMELY difficult to find a hotel in the Bay Area with enough parking space for a trailer. There were plenty of vacancies, but most of the hotels didn’t have parking availability to accommodate the trailer. Although there were some KOAs in the area, we wanted to sleep in a regular bed.

Any surfing?

Why does that SWB bed look so long in that top beach shot?

Figured she needed to pass over the Golden Gate. Drove especially slow to soak in the moment. My son, who is a HUGE Red Hot Chili Peppers fan said, as we were driving over the bridge...”Her name needs to be Dani California.” As I asked him why he liked that name, his reasoning was simple. The Chilis are an iconic California band, our 45 is Californian, and, as in the lyrics, she’s a “hot metal 45”. Big props to you Mason for giving her a great name. He has named all our Land Cruisers, never hastily—always with a lot of thought. As he has told me ...”I’ll know it when I think of it.”

She is now and forevermore christened “Dani California”.

Ok @whitey45 that bed isn’t a stock SWB bed. What we lookin’ at?

Great thread. So did you pick up the 45?

In talking with Brian, 1963 and before had no distinction of SWB or LWB. There was only one wheel base length and one bed length. Again, I might be wrong but that was my take-away from talking with him.

Factory shorty bed. The fixed top beds are a few inches longer than a removable top shorty bed due to the cab being longer on the removable top . Toyota simply shortened the bed to stay with the same 104 wb. All fixed top 45’s have the same bed length. Hope this makes sense!

That bed just looks longer than my early ‘63 fixed top, esp. from rear spring mounts to tailgate. Maybe not.

Hijack over 😂. Oh, and now that you‘re out of California, you can take your masks off.

@middlecalf, no hijack at all. The best threads have open discussions that address questions people have. I appreciate your posts very much. Even more, I appreciate your build thread—I have been following it closely.

We drove from Coleville, Ca to Wendover, NV today. Not too much today other than some good seat time with my son.

LC museum tomorrow!!

interestingly enough, we came across a Godfather’s Pizza. I have not seen one in 30+ years. It was always the best pizza, I have told my son about it numerous times over the years when we were having pizza that wasn’t Godfathers. He got to have it for the first time today. Same great pizza..

Oh yea, it was also National Donut Day.

Just seeing this now Dean. Quite the adventure. Your climb up Father Crowley pass on 190 took you right past the turnoff for the hamlet of Darwin. I visit there regularly. There’s even a little documentary on the place with some of my friends in it.

Also cool seeing current pics of Kevin and Brian. Both the images I have for them in my mind are apparently seriously outdated.😛

Let me know when you need that carb rebuilt.😉
