Uncle Bob's Magic Shop

Examples of his "Magic Wand" or aka "The Wand That Saved My Friends"

NOTE: The shady looking bolts you see, were a TEMP fix until the nice Grade8's and washers arrived!!!

SICK....

I would cry if I had to paint over those welds....that guy does have a magic touch!

Here is the weekend dose since I will not get back to working on the rig until Monday night.

Finished the Hysteer setup. I just have to space it out properly and bolt it all in.

E, always a Debbie downer with the law and reality :D. I do appreciate the concern and it will have a windshield, 70mph on the freeway is not very feasible and I'm not about to wear a full helmet.

snip

that was not a subtle reminder... :) I'm just curious about what we can and can't do. I'm starting to plan for when I roll mine. :D Definitely will be a convertible too... and I want a foldable windshield if any at all :)

I have driven from big bear to Costa Mesa with out a windshield after laying the 40 on its side. It sucks driving on the freeway everything hits you in the face, bugs, junk, trash, windshield washer fluid from the car in front of you. I have done it around town just for kicks and is fun at speeds under 35, when i asked a cop friend of mine he said they have better things to do than bust guys with out windshields but said i should have 2 mirrors.

thanks. Just says "equipped with an adequate windshield". OK. But they don't say what "adequate" is. Plus it's just "equipped" not even "in use". That seems wide open...

been doing alot of reserch on it for my buggy
sounds like it has to be as tall as a dollar bill or 6 inches

theres a pic of me on here of someone spotting me going down the 101
worst that ever happend was got hit by a bat in angeles crest one night

Sam, have you considered sawing off all the top stuff, and putting in a cage that would also serve as support for a canvas top and a windshield? Expensive, of course, but a clean different look and strong.

What's with the blacked out Turn Signals? Are they taped and you just painted it?
IMG_9645.jpg

Since I relocated the turn sigs to the corner lights I just painted over the lights with black paint. If you can call it a mod then that was probably my first, circa 2003. Ideally I'd replace the whole light with some sheet metal when I paint her, but I doubt I'll trouble with it.

Cage you say, hmmm :hhmm: . E, there is no way I'd drive the truck non the less wheel it without a cage. It's on the way

C'mon Sam, all that body cutting and you aren't going to mod the front sheet metal? :flipoff2:

Now that I think about it, what are you doing for a front bumper since Ammo is keeping his bumper, and rig? (Sweet call by the way) :D

I am thinking something that eliminates that whole body section below the grill, kind of like what GreatLakesWaterjet did with his front bumper. Know anyone who could help you fab this sort of thing. :hhmm:

I'll be going the tube route for the bumper. I'm not looking for anything beefy I'd much rather have the clearance. I haven't decided on the style as of yet, but have a few ideas in mind.

I will say this, it's a sexy thing when you look at your truck and the steering is tucked so high thanks to the Slee Hysteer, that you have to take a knee in order to have a clear shot if your draglink and tierod.

First trip

This past week as been a slury of work, school, and phone calls. In keeping with my schedule, my rig was set to set sail to the "Magic Shop" to receive the second half of its make over consisting of a cage and some other upgrades.

The Hysteer has been completed and the steering system upgraded with a PSC 12" Pwr String cooler which is beautiful.

Lowered the truck about 2" in the front removing the spacer and test mounted the front and rear winch (thanks for the brain storm Slomo).

Cleaned the engine, new filter, a few new hoses and some that still have to be replaced and some seafoam in the crankcase and gas tank.

Seats back in and test drive on the freeway down south.

about 60miles with no front windshield going 65mph and getting the dirtiest looks from pple who I was passing. lol. Bumpsteer due to the panhard and draglink not being parallel REALLY sucks. I was in a constant state of correcting my steering.

IMG_9674.jpg

I made it a point to stop and check everything out about 15miles into the drive where I discovered a hairline crack in the steering cooler that was leaking pretty bad. Chewed some gum and placed it over the leak with some electrical tap and topped off the fluid. The gum greatly reduced the amount of fluid leaking and I was feeling better when my check engine light went off.

Since I had the scangauge hooked up in order to keep an eye on my temps, I did a quick check while on the freeway and it was a P0304 code. Didn't know what that was so texted IanRogers who informed me of a cylinder misfire and to just baby her, which I did.

All in all a crazy week and much more fun to come when the new tire package arrives this week god willingly.

nice!

you're going to move that dryer up while you're in there, right...?

Sam, you're getting bumpsteer even with cross over steering??? That's not good.
With the angles i see in the last pic, you shouldn't be getting hardly any.

Are you going to cut that plate back a little that the winch bolts too? It look massive.

Kevin, please tell me this ties into the frame and doesn't just bolt to the body floor section???

Time and budget permitting, I'd like to, but it's not first on the list of to do's by any means.

- Bumpsteer is cause by panhard and draglink not being parallel to oneanother. If you look at the pic that shows the all the links from the front you can clearly see how off parallel the two are.

- The winch plate is getting 2 90 deg bends in it and a single bolt through the top.

- The cage does tie into the frame.
