in sticking with the use what you have theory, here is the sampling of the sway bar brackets fresh from the scrap metal pile. ;)

all four are officially cut out as of tonight, tomorrow, i will clean off the other three on the grinding wheel and drill them so they'll be ready to weld on turkey day, along with an axle gusset i bought (almost a decade ago) used for $25 ;)

i'd love to be able to just go full force and build the **** out of something, but house payments don't allow it:frown:

Nuclearlemon, awesome build thread, even though it started years ago its great to see the history. Keep it going and update us as frequent as possible. I would love to hang out with you and PIGHEAD for a couple of weeks and work on the PIGS and drink :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:.

Thanks Bob.

got a little bit more work done. orange45 sent me the reverse light switch i need (thanks georg!), so tomorrow, i'll get that installed and get the interior buttoned back up again. also finished making the four sway bar brackets.

plans for tomorrow (in addition to the interior) are to get them welded in and get the rear gusset welded on, try to figure out how i'm going to work the rear brake t that faces the wrong way and hopefully get the brake lines done (if the car parts store is open). also have to block off an extra breather line, since i set up my breathers when i had the 55 axle with had two ports

a shot of the extended heavier duty sway bar links i made many moons ago, when it still had a pig axle. will look about the same soon ;)

Ige, question: is it the Pickle, or the Pig-kle?

:-)

I had the same thought earlier today...or while I was dreaming last night ;)

It's green & wrinkled...it's a Pickle

...but then it got shot down

Carry on Ige, is there a thread on the blue pig that I have missed?

Dollies?

I see the Pickle is up on some dollies. I have been on the fence about purchasing some, since the reviews are so all over the place. My 55 is the a two car garage and I'm trying to maximize space (i.e. push the pig up against the wall when I'm not working on it).

What has been your experience with them? Any suggestions?

Cheers.

i've gone through way too many sets of the cheap harbor freight ones. even bought the 1500 lb version..first time you hit a deep crack, the wheel folds under:frown:

Miss Nuclearlemon,

I could use some of your wisdom, on swaybars. I have 60 axles on the 55 frame. What would be your opinion on adapting 60 sway bars to the 55 frame or some mix and match. I have some pieces in my pile of parts, but not sure what they go to, so what do think, before I buy.

Thanks, Ron

i remember the rear 60 series sway bars as mounting on the axle and going upwards to brackets hanging off the frame...am i correct? i used 55 since they were there. easy to weld tabs on the axle housing. bought some straight stock material to extend them for the soa

I'm not real sure how they mount to the frame, I need to find a 60 and take a look. Isn't there a front sway bar, also. Looks to be mounting points on the axle. I'm thinking since I have 60 axles, I should use the 60 bars and adapt them to the 55 frame.

Is this like Dear Abbey?

Ige could start a column called "Ask Ige"

:-)

Is there a chance I could get you to take a picture of the pumkin side of your stabilizer axle mount? I took my lead from you and made four of them. All about the same shape. Looks great driverside, but I think that I will have to make a different shape for the pasenger side because of the location it so close to the pumkin.

i ended up grinding down the ones on the passenger side to match the flat portion

no...haven't touched poor pickle in weeks :frown: with a trip to idaho planned and holidays and double shifts at work, i've been in panic mode to get the 80 back on the road and legal...down to a parasitic draw on the batteries and fighting a strap on meter that i think is bad. i'll have the strap on man test it tomorrow:frown:
