Ill throw this up here. To show the difference between a well set up pump.

80 series stock FT apart from exhaust, which is an absolute must. Stock 10psi boost. Knocked 4 seconds off 0-100 times.

Anyone ever modify the air intake nipple on the top of a boost comp?

There is a pin size hole under the cap and I am wondering if enlarging it would have an advantage or a disadvantage.

I drilled mine out. I don't think it had any effect.

Drilled as well, hard to say what it does.
Spending time adjusting aneroid and fuel pin settings by rotation and spring adjustment.

I would be interested in playing with profiles of the pin.

Currently tuned with a profile you recommended running 15lbs
Would I change this running 20lbs?

Gotta love the torque peak coming on so much earlier on the tuned pump.

The turbo spools from just off idle. 100% increase in torque and power down low where you want it. Completely different truck to drive from nothing but a tune.

BigBoy,

You selling any of those blank fuel pins?
What about custom tuned ones?
I am interested.

Not selling. Unless I have the truck in front of me. I can't tune it. There are way too many variables, and far too much to try and explain. Which is why this thread doesn't go very far.

Well after tuning the boost comp (with advice) I think I am component enough to tune a completely different fuel rod.

I am having problems finding these rods for our pumps.

You have to get them cnc or turned up. I'm sure if you did a bunch to get them cheap, others in your neck of the woods would buy some off you.

Trying to dig up some info on the pump timing advancement. For both the 1hz and 1hd-t. I am really after the 1hz (as I have one in my truck)

I have one person telling me advance the pump 1mm while another said 2mm. Reading guys with the td42s are only moving it .05mm - .1mm past stock. I have a proper dial gauge and the sst for the job.

I got the word from one person and apparently a good tuner to just set it to factory timing specs.

So i got off my ass tonight and decided i should finally re-time my injection pump.
I took my ACSD (assisted cold start device) off last year and since the the cold starts were right off. White smoke, sputters until you got going and it was all fixed, minor issue that I just ignored, got a little worse at -10C. This was saying the timing was retarded and I was told after taking the ACSD off to re-time.

Anyways, checked the timing and the plunger stroke of the ip was .77mm and stock is anywhere from 1.03mm - 1.09mm. Right out of wack, i advanced it to 1.09mm.

The truck ran decent highway temperatures at 600-700 degrees off the top of my head and when I fitted the tent it shot up to 800 deg F. Way to fxxxing hot for my likings. Plus the fuel economy was in the toilet as you know. Truck's max fuel screw was tuned to 1200deg F pre turbo.

Since advancing the pump and doing a short test tonight on my way home the truck runs smoother, has noticeably more power, more responsive and runs cooler on the highway as well as the max temperature.
WOOOOO HOOO! Apparently my fuel economy should get noticeably better and my cold start sputters should be fixed.

I got 100-150 F degree lower temperatures while cruising @ 100kms/h so now its sitting back at 650-700deg F with the fxxxing tent on the roof. Nice.
Plus the max EGT is at 1000 deg F now, this means I can crank way more fuel into it.

She's going to go real well with more fuel, intercooler, plenum, air box and 20lbs of boost.

I cannot believe I didn't do this sooner. :bang::cheers::steer:

Awsome work.

1 of my old 4x4 buddies was a diesel mechanic. We used to advance his timing until it started to ping, then turn it back a touch. Old school method from bullet proof youth :). But, the reality is. Dont touch the timing at all. Especially on a cruiser. There are much better ways to gain performance, simply by a good tune (without all the negative side affects).

I thought about doing that, but i didn't like the idea of a loose pump rattling around.
It's sure spring loaded when setting the timing. I saw the cummins guys attach a ratchet strap to the pump and gently pull the pump into position. Worked like a charm.

It's also a big relief hearing another tuner say keep it in spec.
