More progress...

Took the front door panels off, removed PO POS Rockford Fosgate speakers in the doors. Ckeaned window switch contacts, and added 1 roll of Frost King Butyl/Aluminum insulation to inside of outer door skins, and outer side of inner door skins. Doors feel a little more "solid", not as tinny. I cleaned out the drip holes in the doors, and lubed the track and door runs. Installed a pair of Kenwood KFC-1695PS three way speakers in the doors. fixed a hack job of speaker wiring in the doors too, and fixed loose map pockets, handles, etc. Twisted wire joints and electrical tape dont equate to great sound. Have to repeat the same process on the rear doors with another pair of 6.5s. While I'm in there, ill try to fix the flaky door lock on the passenger rear door.

Had horrible fuel smell and pressure in the gas tank. tested the charcoal cannister per FSM, and it failed. Purchased an autozone duralast vc120, and installed it after work. No pics. Used only the top mounting bracket, and a 6mm x 60mm bolt in place of the original to accommodate the larger can. So far, so good. Ive also got a new gas cap on the way as well.

Also have a new rag joint on order, and will swap that in once it arrives.

Spent some time with my new Griots Garage 6 inch random orbital buffer with orange pad, and some mirror glaze #2 cleaner compound. Followed that up with some Mother's Syhthetic wax applied with a 10 inch orbital. got too dark to finish the rear hatch and roof, and clean up some errant compound on the black bits.

Busy day today. busted out the pb blaster and propane, and removed the two o2 sensor studs that were stripped out. used a sanding block and leveled out the bung. chased the threads with an 8x1.25 tap. Installed new studs (had to use a pair of water pump studs, cut off 2 or 3 threads to make them short enough), new oem gasket. Tightened everything up, and no exhaust leak.

Then stupid time ensued. Decided to mount up my sliders. such a fun 1 person job. Another 12 lbs of dirt and mud raining down on me. Took a while, but having the ARB awning draped over the truck made a nice shady spot.

Next up was tackling the slop in the steering. rag joint looked ok, so that got set aside for now. popped the cap on the power steering, and the fluid was black, thick, icky, and nasty. Spent the better part of an hour sucking fluid out and pouring new fluid in. 2 1/2 quarts and its at least upgraded to a light brown . steering feels tighter, and it doesnt wander side to side. play in the wheel is now half of what it was.

Last up, was a brand new OEM gas cap.

Quick update today. Since almost everyone in the club seems to have a white 80, I had to do somethin so i can find mine (the shortest one) in the parking lot.

Took the grille out, and attacked it with a dremel and a 4 inch grinder with a cutoff disk. Made a template out of some cardstock, and cut the insert out of a Dell Server cabinet door I liberated from work. After a bunch of fidgeting, i drilled and pop riveted it in place. masked off the chrome and sprayed some roll bar black. added a retro toyota logo and mounted it back up. not perfect, but ive got 3 1/2 more doors to play with

Dug into the rear doors to fix some more PO moronisity. Speakers were blown and buggered, wire connections twisted together with electrical tape, missing grilles (and tweeter in one), so they had to come out. I gave the doors the same Frost King foil butyl insulation on the outer and inner door skins, and did some surgery to remove the 4 1/2 inch speaker sheet metal to ckear the same Kenwood 6.5s I mounted in the front doors. I made some .091 aluminum plates to bring the speakers flush with the door skin. i was worried that the magnets would hit the window.

No pics of the during, was in the driveway with no shade.

Sound quality is vastly improved, a whole lot louder too. and the doors arent as tinny sounding anymore.

Sat in the driveway listening to my old IASCA competition sound demo disc. It will do until i can find an amplified stealthy subwoofer.

Semi annual white sale and update.

I've been trying to relieve @weejub and his storage problem, by getting all his parts hes not going to use on his 80.

Went to his place and we installed the frontrunner rack. I stopped at my storage unit and grabbed my arb 2000 awning, and slapped that up on the rack.

Stillessing with winch fitment on the arb bumper,it's not on yet. maybe this week.

LKQ was having a 40% off sale, so I stimulated the economy a bit. picked a 2004 volvo xc70 clean. Horns, plastic storage tray, and both front bucket seats. also grabbed the middle section of the back seat to reupholster my armrest. have to sort thru a wiring diagram to determine what I need for power and seat heaters.

On the rack, I will be moving the front and rear feet inward one slat to match the installation guide. I dont like where they currently sit. Thats going to have to be a Saturday thing, when its not raining.

Brown Santa brought some more goodies today. Etrailer supplied a combo pintle/2 inch ball to mount in the bumper, and ebay supplied a mil-surp chainplate. I'll get some hardware this weekend. I can then reinstall the rear loops that wont work with the class 3 hitch I bolted on last month.

I'd highly recommend not mounting a winch onto a bumper by yourself, and also not then mounting them to the truck by yourself. oooof what a day. I have to relocate the solenoid, and wire it up, and respool the line. also got a wash and some compounding and polish.

Who needs a gym membership when ya got an 80 to work on

I had to get creative on the arb. the mounting rails were too narrow. I thought it was my frame rails, but no amount of bending those in was going to get the bumper on.

So I laid it down on cardboard, and used 5 wood blocks, my 2 inch double stack receiver and a bottle jack to spread the rails. it worked remarkably well, a little sketchy, but it did the trick. no pictures, cause I know how insurance works.
