I was just in San Francisco yesterday. It was $9.80/ gallon down town. How will they label it when it goes over $10.00? There's no extra digits on the signs.
But they get the views, so I guess it's worth it.....

I’m willing to bet big money that at least one of you remembers when it went over a dollar and some pumps didn’t have the dollar space…?
$6.49 to $6.89 for diesel here….$150.00 last week for fill-up

Yup. $.89/ gallon when I got my licence. Although at the $3.35/ hour I was earning then as a detailer at Lyons Toyota back then, fuel is relatively far cheaper now.
Perhaps they can raise the tax on diesel $.20 and then the stations can get a 'free' sign upgrades with the extra digit from tax credits; maybe two extra digits just to cover inflation over the next couple decades. Surely we can't have them taping a '1' in front of the sign these days like they did back when we were kids......

I remember in high school a gas station that sold gas for ten cents a gallon. Cigarettes were ten cents in the vending machine.

I remember when diesel was a fraction of the cost of gas, and gas was cheap back then. Then I think they started taxing the crap out of diesel. I also remember we nearly lost our minds when gas hit $1 a gallon! 
Diesel is $6.40 a gallon over here.
And I'll tell you what I do NOT understand, and that is why fuel prices have gone up in the first place if we do not get our oil from Iran or the middle east?! We have all the oil we need right here in the USA. And the day after the conflict started with Iran our gas prices shot up. Hell, that gas was already in the gas station's tanks. The conflict didn't affect the gas or diesel in their tanks, but they sure raised their prices. In my opinion, the administration should go after the fuel stations for price gouging.

Yep, picture from Thursday I think. Justin ended up having to walk a few blocks to the gas station, I guess the fuel gauge needs a little more calibration.

I never had a chance to calibrate the guage.... in the 11 miles I've driven it. It's set for Toyota, but it needs to be filled and then you go into the settings and set the fuel as full. As I recall, that sets the full level at approximately 90 ohms ....if I recall correctly, then empty should be 0ohms..... does that sound right Matt?

Uh...... gas full.... gas empty. My '69 Chevy C10 SWB Fleetside pickup (wish I had never sold it, dang kids! Sold it to buy a bunk bed) the gas tank was right behind the seat, so you just jiggled the steering wheel from left to right and listened to the "slosh" to know how much gas you had.
Currently in Australia diesel is $3.09 a litre, it's a f##ken joke the country has gone to $hit.

That's $11.75/ gallon to put it in perspective. And QLD tends to be on the cheaper side. Victoria is averaging $3.25/litre or $12.35/ gallon: closing all the refineries in Australia to reduce the carbon footprint was probably not a wise move long-term. The carbon tax was brilliant to get broad support for a blanket tax however. Taxes and cost of living are two big reasons we moved away from Australia, sadly.
Interestingly, one of the reasons John Gorton, the Prime Minister who converted Australia to metric, pushed for it was because he felt it was easier to sell taxes in smaller increments. He argued that a tax of 10 cents/litre would get passed more easily than a tax of 42 cents/ Imperial gallon in petrol. Not surprisingly, he was Victorian.
My Brother-in-law and my best man at my wedding are both project managers in construction in Adelaide. The regulations and hiring requirements have become so onerous that they spend at least one day/week - often more- simply documenting compliance. That also adds costs to every facet of existence.
