Little in formation so I don't have to search. Diff gears, height of the tires? Is the transfer still one to one in high range. Believe you had 3.0:1 low range gears installed. If speed is not GPS what tooth count on the driven gear?

Have you got the seat heater so you can just the back section on? Don't think I could deal with the seat cushion being heated. On vehicles I have with seat heaters during the winter at 7,000' have to turn it off shortly after it warms the seat.

3.70 axle gears, 33" tire, H55f transmission, stock transfer case gears. Should be ~2500rpm at 78MPH

Speed is calibrated to gps, but it runs off the transfer output. 3.70 diffs, 1:1 high range, 33" rubber.

Cruise is very comfortable at seventy five miles per hour. She happy at 80 too, but I'm still getting used to her. 17.2 mpg at 75 mph with air ain't bad either.

But to do 80 regularly I'd want 60 series axles. That 3" of extra width really tames the road manners.

Just drove home thorough the mostly pounding rain. So far so good. A few minor issues I'll work through and then the fun stuff. This springs are fantastic!

I filled her up down the road from Matt's Cruiser Spa. Averaged 73 mph (accordingvto the Dakota Digital) 2+ hours home, then filled her again at home. 17.2 mpg with the air con on the whole way. Not too shabby.

Air con keeps it livable, even with the seat heat going on high most of the time (makes the back feel good). It's certainly not cold the cab, but it's livable.

We are going to get a TON of rain every day for the next few days, so times like these will make your LX 3 wipers REALLY nice!!! When do you think you will have that installed?

I was waiting to get the 43 back so i can get the paint mixed. Hoping I'll have it done by Thanksgiving.

IFS hubs/tundra brakes would get you the same gain in the front but way less work easier then an FJ60 axle, maybe a Phase 2 upgrade for later, along with some 16" Nomad wheels :hmm:
I'd have zero qualms about pairing that with rear 1.5" spacers to match. 1 day of work vs four or more, no need to redo steering linkages, spring perches, rebuild axles again, Source a FJ60 FF, etc

Go drive it for a year first though!! :)

@Chamba from our first encounters on BAT, our brief texts, a year or so later, plans for meetup in Trenton and ALL of the agonizing of the perfect FJ43 you had wanted: congratulations to you in your pursuit of 43 excellence… great job to Matt and his team.

It looks great and probably feels even greater being able to walkout to the garage and just see it, feel it and smell it 👏 👏👏 !!

New slider window is in. My son helped me put it in when he got back from surfing (good waves right now due to the hurricane in the Gulf).

I couldn't have managed this at all though without @matt tin, thank you for finding this mate. It's guys like him, @cruisermatt @Living in the Past @frankenyota and many others who make this site so great.

Josh could you take some pictures on the inside of the sliders? Didn't play that close of attention when I grab parts off a wrecked troopy back in 2015. Curious how much it would interference there would be with a roll bar.

Also when when say speedometer uses the output of the transfer case is that rotations off the driveshaft or the speedometer cable connection? The cable connection speed varies depending on the number of teeth on the driven gear.

It's flush with the inside @Living in the Past . That's why it sticks out on the outside. There's no way it could get in the way of a roll bar so long as the bar fits with a factory hard top.

I satisfied some OCD: put the shift boot on the outside of the shift cane. Also installed the receiver hitch.

I'm so sick of Florida heat I could scream. Sweated a good pint of water out doing this. When will Sauna Season end??

Everything is looking good. When you got it home, how many times did you open the door to the garage to look at it, or go into the garage and look again?

I remember you told us about the first ride, with your son, being a little scary and his comment. Has he gone for a ride in it now, and if so what did he say?

I have been wanting to add some additional reverse light to mine too, and trying to decide the best way to go about it. I bet those work well and throw out a LOT more light.

It's good to have it back. My son really likes it. It's funny, I haven't gotten to the point where I'm just admiring it yet as I'm still doing all the stuff I wanted to do to it while it was the CruiserSpa. But my son often just sits on the garage in his camaro talking to his girlfriend, and he keeps telling me it looks great😁.

We do need to get rid of the fuel smell though but it's great otherwise. I've got an ad in the wanted section for a new fuel filler neck is anyone know of one for a '79-'84 out there. When the tank is full it's nearly overpowering.

Those backup lights are awesome. I've got them on a separate switch, so they work equally well as anti-tailgate and 'excuse me, you forgot to dip your brights' lights as well.

I too am getting the smell of fuel in the cab on some days. I reviewed the possibilities with ports on the new OEM fuel tank and it seems that it is properly connected. I have a new evap thing and a new check valve so not sure where the release is building from. One trip down the driveway and it’s gone but it can permeate the entire pole barn and slaps you in the face when you walk in the door.

Funny thing is that is doesn’t smell like gasoline used to smell to me. It smells more like varnish from the 1940’s. I have 1 line that is open to the atmosphere that passes through the cab floor and vents to the floor….never a drip of fuel but typically a strong smell of ‘ varnish ‘. Maybe a canister is my next foray

The plate that covers the fuel fill area on the inside and the cover that allows access to the fuel level sensor are the place that close to the fuel system. Both those having packing. I would checked both but especially the fuel fill area that has the fume recovery tank inside.

Besides a new cap and gasket plus a part called a shield, part number 77293-60030.

If that filler neck is the same as the FJ40, here's one:

Here's a reproduction stainless steel, don't know if it would work for you but you can take a look:

I wonder if that varnish smell is from the corn ethanol in the fuel? Well, if you can smell it strong in the pole barn, since you were a young adult in the 60's and 70's be sure you don't fire up a torpedo in there. Or you either Chamba. Reminds me of this song, I used to play it on the radio when I was a DJ on the radio in the late 80's / early 90's, if any of you have not heard it, it is a must hear:

And years later after I was out of radio they did a sequel to it:

And in searching for #2 I discovered they did a #3:

- YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SaG8LHdB7k

And I can neither confirm nor deny smoke rising in the air from the other DJ's in the room while I was playing the original. 😂 ;)

Sorry for the hi-jacking Chamba. Hope you enjoyed them, Back to FJ & parts discussions.

1/79 everything changed. The fuel tank grew to twenty two and half gallons. Mounted underneath the tub. With a hard and windows closed you shouldn't get any fuel smell. Old pictures I have of an 82 tub. Did not come with covers. I pulled some off a wrecked troopy that had black bed liner on the interior. Can see the covers in the pictures.

Only additional thing I could think of is seal the seams on the compartment where the fill and fume tank is.
