Story is - I wanted a J**p, but didn't want a new one, then thought "Why should I restore something that there are thousands of", once I saw an old FJ40, I was hooked. Wanted a red one, ad after researching, I decided that I wanted a 79 or later with the better highway gears, tank underneath, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with the earlier ones, I just made a decision. Found a pretty complete mostly original FJ40 in GA, close to home. Went and looked at it on a Sunday, by the time I got home, it was done, he delivered it Wednesday. That was about 2 years ago. Told my wife this would take 6 months to restore! Now I'm having to argue that I haven't yet worked on it 6 months - based on total days I actually work on it. Anyway, it was just the right one for me.

This is a familiar story almost word for word. You are actually faster than me. I am in Georgia as well. Good to see another addict local.

I am restoring a 1908 freeborn red as well. Following this with amazement at whats to come for me! What paint brand did you go with? Looks like a really nice single stage. Still debating the bedliner, but yours certainly looks good.

Paint is PPG. My painter called it DBC - I think it's from PPGs Deltron line. I think the clear is from PPGs Global line. He said it was the best clear PPG makes. I'm sure there is some personal preference in that statement, but from the looks of it, I'd have to agree with him. Somebody chime in here if this doesn't make sense - I might have something mixed up.

Paint actually looks wet, like you could walk up & stick your hand in it. I am very impressed with the results.

What is this?

I mounts on passenger side of firewall under the heater duct. The tube sticks through the firewall.

TERMINATION POINT FOR THE VENT TUBE THAT GOES TO THE THE FACTORY DIZZY CAP. MY VENT TUBE IS RED ON MY 40. ITS MOUNTED UNDER /IN THE GLOVE BOX SO IT GET FRESH CLEAN AIR TO KEEP DIZZY MOISTURE/FUME FREE.

Couple of things I'm not sure about...

1. I think this wire goes to the oil pressure sending unit - I've never seen one with a boot like this - maybe the boot belongs somewhere else. Boot fits loosely over the oil pressure sending unit, but not snug.

2. I think this black & white (dirty white) wire goes to the starter, right?

Any thoughts on the 2 pics above?

I have come to the conclusion that this wiring harness has plugs for factory AC built in. Pretty much everything is installed (except AC) & I've run out of things to plug in. Also read somewhere on here about a 6 pin plug & a 3 pin plug for the AC. That would be the 2 plugs at about 11:00 in this pic. 2 plugs at 9:00 are for the inspection light & the bullet connectors are for the wiper motor.
