Had I known the problems I would have never bought it . They completely re worked the sniper 2 and addressed the issues. Luckily Summit was nice enough to send be a brand new unit and once I had that I just drove to the store and exchanged it for the sniper 2. We shall see how it does but I can say with certainty that it runs ALOT better than it ever has . Fingers crossed

I'm glad I followed your thread not only because of the AWESOME build but because my daughter and I were thinking of the Sniper for her 66 Mustang. Corn gas, carburetors and Phoenix temps don't make for a good running engine during the summer. We had high hopes for the Sniper. Now I'm not so sure.

Get the Sniper 2

Well Things still suck . So i had noticed my Alt was what appeared to not be charging . Running its around 11.8-12.2. I have checked and rechecked everything . So i pulled the Alt and took it back. Installed the new one and the same :bang: Of coarse my Multimeter is not working :bang::bang:. I unhooked a battery cable and it stayed running so i know its working (. I know I know Some will say i just blew my car up ) its still here I am so frustrated with this thing ITS A FN SBC can not get any more basic I even tried adding a extra ground to the alt Nothing .

Were you having battery trouble on the trail ? you have dual batts ? where does the recharge wire from alt go ?

isn't it a one wire?
possibly an rpm thing?
yes 1 wire but it does not change when you rev it. really weird . tommorow i will take it back apart and sand the chrome. maybe thats it. i am at a lose right now

No. No issues on the trail . Just single Battery . goes to my Starter

so its not a dead batt situation just no increased output from alt ? maybe the batt is at voltage & the alt isnt kicking in because its not seeing low voltage ? Curious, did you put the meter on alt when you did the + terminal disconnect test ?

Checked with MM and 12.3 at Batt. not charging :( Same at Alt HMM

I assume you are running a single heavy gauge wire to the battery from the B+ terminal on the alt? (Not running through the stock alt harness wiring)
Correct . It was fine everything worked great . Changed the Sniper and now its 11.8-12.2. I have Changed the Alt . Same Taken new alt off and Cleaned all Grounding points . Same . Added extra Ground to Alt Same . I run the wire from my Alt to the starter lug and my Pos Battery cable as well . I even tried hooking my jumper cables from the Alt lug to the Pos Batt Same . There is only so many things . My Sniper Runs direct off the batt

Do you have any portion of the stock fusible link wire in place?

Ok took Alt off for the 95th time and took it to store to make sure it was good and it’s puts out 14 volts 🤨🙃. Had them
Test an old one I had also just incase and it’s good also 😳. So now I am really confused . But we know the alt is good .

Nothing stock . I have 1 wire that goes from Alt to starter. From starter I have main battery wire and 1 wire to my ignition key then from key back to starter solenoid. Very simple

Well since I am in here I went ahead and got a 6 gauge wire made to run from the Alt.
