Love those 1911s!

I have had a very active few days w/ guns:

Am in negotiations for a trade of two Gen 3 Glocks (26 and 19) for a like-new Armalite AR-10 w/ a fancy stock and forehand. I have been (kinda) wanting another 7.62 AR, but with a longer barrel than my previous very LOUD and heavy 16" DPMS. I think the deal is too good to pass up.

I need to continue to research the Armalite - don't know a ton about it other than Gun Broker values at the moment :\. They don't sound as adaptable with MagPul stuff, etc., but with nice features and built well - just different sized pieces and magazines. . .

I would probably have to go back with another G19 or G26 for CCW, so I am not super keen on giving the guy a great deal :)

Also selling a glock 17L w/ tall sights for suppressor, stainless magwell w/ balancer in grip, and Lone Wolf stainless steel threaded barrel (in picture above) on our local Gun Trader site. I put a hundred rounds through it a few days ago - just got it broke-in and shoots pretty nice now. This was my experiment gun for use with a AAC Ti-Rant, but . . gonna do the below:

The G17L's sale will help fund a 9MM AR w/ the Sig pistol "stock" and a 7" barrel from Lone Wolf that uses glock magazines. Should be something like this when done: http://truthaboutguns-zippykid.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/101-900x460.jpg

Merry Christmas! We are coming up with the kids to check out a few places on Friday - - if I see a really nice Cruiser I may pull you over in my Prius V - - LOL - I'll have my hands up, though, if I do.

Had to take the new Kimber for a run today, due to the weather, I opted to visit my friends at the PDHSC in Garner. I drug Mikaela with me so she could get a feel of shooting a .45 cal since we are shopping for her first pistol for CCW. She was able to handle the Kimber well...

An Ultra frames Kimber (essentially an officer size) is a great CCW. I am here today because of havering one on at least two occasions. ;). I am a strong believer in the 1911 platform and Kimber seems to have figured out reliable function in the 3" barrel models (though ammo choice is still important).

A great Christmas present for yourself.

Merry Christmas!

Being so nice out today, I packed Regina into the car for a trip to the range today. She shot the Kimber .45, the Glock 19 she has shot many times before as well as my DPMS AR for the first time also. She did very well and is gaining confidence in her skills...

Can you put some more pics of the G17L?

I don't know of a Glock 17L model. I have a G34 but not familiar with a G17L, would like to see a pic also...

edit...now see it was the predecessor of the G34...

yea, it was the early long slide 9mm but didn't fit in the box to be legal for IDPA. The 34 does.

I can when I get home - I didn't keep any on my laptop here with me in Cary. I have a buyer local to KC already and he needs pics too :)

It has a 6" barrel and does not have the rear adjustable site like the G34. It was not produced for Gen 4, but will be back for Gen 5.

The G17L feels a lot less balanced than the G34. I wouldn't recommend one vs the 34 - I'd stick with a G34 or G17. I was going try to put a 9" barrel on it for use with a AAC TiRant, but decided to go a different route.

EDIT: I put tall Trijicon sights on it for the silencer and a Lonewolf threaded barrel. The biggest help was putting the Carver weighted magwell.

I've been spending too much time reading thru the 1911 forum threads, looked through too many Youtube videos on field/detailed striping and proper fitting of the 1911 platform. I decided to look at the feed ramp and barrel even though I've had 0 feeding issues.

Sorry for the crappy cel phone pics, I've done this on all my Glocks, found nothing wrong (in my novice eyes) in the factory finish, just decided it couldn't hurt to put a nice polish on the ramp/barrel anyway...

Nice job Jerry :) I did the same to my Bersa .380 and cured a loading issue. I am liking the new Kimber.

The first quote in the article takes a backhanded stab at Taurus (either on purpose or with crappy writing)

"When you think about it, we wear our guns a lot more than we shoot them, yet they are designed primarily for shooting. The new Taurus Curve fixes that."

It is true all CCW guys are putting a square peg in a round hole .... There is something to be said for taking a first step in the evolution to a better solution

I think there is a lot to be said for this direction. Traditionalists will hate it but my wife and daughters can see the design more functional for them. I can see dropping the Glock internals into some carbon fiber, molded frame that housed a dot site, powerful LED's and a handful of decent caliber rounds...

Over the past year or so, I have been making a few upgrades to the collection including this beauty from someone who has been described as John Brownings much younger brother ....

I ordered it in April, figuring I would get it in time for a major birthday next year. Was given a lead time at order of 18-26 months. It arrived two weeks before Christmas.

Grips are box elder burl from high figure grips. http://www.highfiguregrips.com/#!1911-full-size-box-elder-burl/

I am looking for a set of Stag grips for it.

Following up to the above post, over the last 24 months or so, I have made a few upgrades. In my typical style, this translates to acquisitions without offsetting disposals ;) . Given storage constraints and the high potential for a period of unemployment in 2015, I will be going through the inventory over the next few weeks to figure out what needs to go. Once I figure that out, I'll give ONSC members first looks. Will likely include a few 1911 variants and one or two other quality pieces .....

Might be interested if you have a 1911 "compact". I have been looking at a lot of different options over the last couple of weeks. I really like to watch hickock45 videos - even though he rarely complains about a gun. He really seemed to rave about the Range Officer Compact, despited being a self-admitted Glock fanboy. I really like my XDM. I like the Kimper Pro Carry II, but man, they are proud of that thing.

Anybody happen to have a Range Officer Compact? I'd love to get a chance to shoot one and haven't run across one at the range yet.

:beer:R

Oh, wanted to see if anyone else came across any load failures with Winchester FMJ? I had one round (out of about 175 I shot the other day) that wouldn't load. Seems the brass had a sharper lip than normal and even though it would chamber, the slide lacked 1/8" or so from shutting. I confirmed the load ramp is still nice and smooth.

I have a standard Range Officer that you can shoot sometime if you'd like. It's not the compact, but might help give you some idea. The compact model is 1/2" shorter in height and 1" shorter in length.
