Good game Jim.

The Deacs are in a tail spin right now, losing 3 of our last 4. We have a pretty good home stretch coming up but if we don't find some offense soon, this season is all but over...

Your season is over dont worry about it though Andy you have basketball to look forward too. Sad thing is I said this to myself like 3 weeks ago.

Richard you need to just quit posting. It's just not the same around here since you went and started thinking about basketball. At least give us some insights into where you think Clemson will be ranked going into next years season. 1, 2, or 3?:D

That depends on who we hire and what we do the rest of the yr. I'm betting not ranked though since we are losing more talent then UNC has ever had in its entire history. Combine that with a new coach and most people aren't going to have any confidence in us. Check out these awesome quotes though. Not sure I really want Muschamp though I think he'll jump ship like Rich Rod did at WVU.

"Every coach in the country right now wants Clemson," he said. "All of them. Because they feel like it's a quote `SEC' job.

"A lot of coaches are starting to look at the SEC and say this might not be the best time to go there."
Scarbinsky says, “In other words, Clemson can pay an SEC salary and provide SEC passion without SEC competition. Sounds to me like the perfect place for Muschamp to start as a head coach.”

Great point! I think that is a good assessment. It would be hard to believe that Muschamp wouldn't want to go to Georgia, LSU, or Texas, if they came calling.

I want a coach that is willing to understand Clemson's history, and wants to bring Clemson back to the national scene. I want him to want to coach us to another National Championship. I want him to want to make Clemson a national power, not looking ahead to that "other" school who is already there.

I dont think LSU is very likely he just got a start there but wasnt there that long. I think he has much more affinity to Auburn and would be more likely to go there then LSU. UGA wont be open anytime soon so I'm not sure that really matters. Texas is a good bet if he thought Mack Brown was stepping down soon (next 3-5) he'd probably just stay at Texas til then but I dont think he wants to wait longer and I think Brown will be there longer.

I want someone who is all about Clemson too which is one reason I really like Dabo, I think Bobby Johnson would be that way too but hes to damn old.

I think if it isn't one of those 3 then we need to go out of the normal list a bit and talk to some guys like Graham at Tulsa, Kragthorpe at Louisville, Peterson at Boise St, and Kelly at Cincinnati. JP told me a while back he likes Jim Leavitt at USF but I think the guys a bum and hasn't done anything. He has one good yr its like hiring Bowden all over again.

I've always considered Clemson as one of the best at football. You see and hear a lot about them. Talked to a friend the other day who lives in Texas who follows college football. He said Clemson doesn't have the reputation as having a great football program. He said we just think that because they are close. To the rest of the country Clemson is a mere blip on the radar screen.

I've never thought about it that way. Did some searching for top college football programs. This is one of the first I found. Pretty interesting.

ESPN - Storied programs dominate Ladder 119's top rungs - College Football

I think that is a fair assessment. We haven't done anything in this decade, besides whoop up on some 1AA (or whatever they call that league now) teams, pull an occasional rabbit out of the proverbial hat. We haven't really been great since the early 90's.

This is why I think that this hire is so important. If we muff this one, we'll be mentioned in the likes of UNC and USCe... eternal cellar dwellars :flipoff2:

From today's State:

EXTRA POINTS

North Carolina coach Butch Davis told reporters he had had contact with Clemson about its coaching vacancy, as was reported on a Charlotte radio program.

If we decide to take Butch Davis you think you'll still get hundreds of dollars for your worthless UNC tickets Marshall?

I seriously doubt UNC is gonna let him go. Would be good for Clemson if they did get him. He is a good coach. You guys should have fired Tommy 2 years ago. You might have him right now.

I would think it's required that coaches say what schools they have had talks with.

If he left for Clemson I would doubt UNC tickets next season would be worth much. But there is always basketball.

Ah, I knew one of the SEC fans here would come around. Cheers David for finally stepping up and recognizing the ACC as a REAL conference... :grinpimp:

 Funny chit right there.

Been a bit hesitant to talk football with an ACC crowd lately... not sure that language is spoken anymore.

It doesnt matter if UNC wants to let him go or not, Clemson is a better job, we'll pay him more, football is #1 here not #2 like UNC, the program is already loaded with talent, we have a bigger stadium and better football related facilities. Theres really no reason to stay at UNC if Clemson goes after him seriously.

All ACC coaches have clauses in their contracts preventing them from going to another ACC school. Name me one acc coach that has moved to another ACC team in the past 10 years.

Tom O'Brien, and it's more of a gentleman's agreement, not a clause. But, I think that UNC learned from Texas and Mack Brown, and would be willing to give Butch a raise to match anything that Clemson offered, if we came calling. Which I don't think we will, at least not too seriously.

I believe Marshall is correct about not being able to make a head coaching direct hop inside of the conference.

TOB was able to make that move due to some loophole with him being a Big East coach when the rule was made, or so I've been told...

If I were a Clemson fan, the last person I'd want as the new head coach would be Butch Davis. He's been mediocre at best over his coaching career and while he has UNC playing well right now, he has proven time and time again that his loyalties are singularly tied to the $.

I realize it eventually comes down to that but if it were me, I'd want someone I knew was committed to the program for more than a couple of years at best and was driven by other things money doesn't address - integrity being the main that one all of these dollar chasers leave at the door (see Saban or even worse, Petrino)...

And don't kid yourself Richard - from Butch's perspective, a move to Clemson would be lateral at best even taking into account the list you mentioned. Consider the long term upside in Chapel Hill versus Clemson - it really isn't close...
