Um, don't forget about Auburn. Just cause they aren't in your division doesn't mean they won't wreck your little "Top Spot" party.

I actually hope you start out 4-0 that way this years end of season train wreck will be that much more heart-wrenching.

Like back-back-back losses to Florida, Troy and Clemson.:lol::lol:

with the Auburn, Flordia and Bama games all lined up the Troy and Clemson games should be a walk in the park

yeah, we are not as lucky as clemson and play in a conference where 9 out of the 12 teams in our conference are cupcake teams.

It is a hell of a scheduel again this year. Alot of stout SEC teams back to back but thats why they call the SEC championship game the NC playoffs. If your going to win an SEC title it's not easy even for Bama and Florida

Who is "they"?

You make it sound like the SEC is 1 and 2 year after year. Hell, the SEC has only been in the NC game 1/2 of the time since the start of the Bowl Coalition of 92'.

Jeremy

how many conferences are there? The SEC has appeared in 50% of NC games since then...not a bad statistic IMHO...being that means the other 50% is made up of all combined SEC opponets. This statistic backs up the statement that the SEC championship game is the playoff game for the NC.

For the record I do not think this is the year that S.Car will contend for the SEC championship game but this is the break out season we need to build upon to achieve a championship caliber team. Get a 8-10 win year, get another good recruiting class, keep all our players from going to the early draft (which has been a huge issue) and make the run for the SEC championship next season.

in the ACC you have Miami, FSU and GT...those are about the extend of your really strong teams year in and year out. And FSU and Miami have not been the powerhouses of the past for a LONG time. FSU got a good bowl last year because of daddy bowden retiring...sometimes i really hate bowl games. The rest of the teams...cupcakes compared to most of the SEC teams.

I wish you guys a good season (until we play) but i'm hoping that at the end of the year UNC ends up with the ACC title. I'm not an ACC fan nor a UNC fan but i like the way they have built that team up.

In the past 4-5 years ( i can't remember past then...i do well to remember last season) The SEC has done well in the rankings system. Last season Bama and UF stayed in the top 5 all season long.

IIRC they year before (when Tebow won his second NC) for most of the year most of the top ten was all SEC for a majority of the season as well as the season before when i think it was LSU that won the NC.

Past then i dont remember much other than Florida getting a NC when tebow was a freshmen.

Either way...it's been a good 4-5 years for the SEC.

forgot to add VT...not a powerhouse but a pretty good team in your conference the past few years. So you guys have about 3-4 pretty descent teams each year. Not stellar but pretty good.

Its a good thing you can't remember more than 4 or 5 years it allows you to negate important information like the ACC playing in the first 3 Championship games this decade and the ACC playing in 8 of 10 during the 90's. Basically your whole argument is built on the past 5-6 years prior to which the SEC hadnt even went to the Championship game since 1998. All you are point to is typical college football ebb and flow. A fan of the real USC could say the Pac-10 dominated college football for the first 1/2 of the decade if he wanted to since USC was there every year.

VT not a powerhouse is as stupid a comment as is in this thread, I hate VT more than anything, but they have the highest win % over the past 20 years of any team in college football, they go to the BCS regularly and have played for as many National Championships as USuC has played for conf. championships. They are a powerhouse and the model of consistency.

Yeah the SEC gets it's share of favoritism. Like a 4th ranked Ole Miss that dropped like a rock after week 3.

I think it was Carolina's mediocre program that started that fall from grace.

And I guess math isn't your strong suit.

In 18 years there have been 38 teams to play in the NC. SEC represented 9 of those 38 teams. That's 23%. So out of the 4 major conferences the SEC has been present 23% of the time. Not exactly domination when you look at it further back than the last 7 years. Hell if Saban wouldn't have sold his soul to the devil, the SEC wouldn't even have much to brag about lately unless you live in Gator town.

ok..if we're giving the term "powerhouses" based on divisional titles.

TN-16 division titles

UF has 8 confrence titles + thier NC wins

Bama has 13 national champoinships alone i don't even need to look back at their division titles.

Georiga not shabby with 5 SEC titles..by your measure almost a "powerhouse" if 7 is the magic number

LSU 3 NC wins and 13 division titles

Auburn...well they are one of the most successful bowl teams in college football 13th or something for wins and 16th in apperances...only 4 official NC recoginized by the NCAA but the school only claims one.

In 2004 the Tigers were robed of the NC during their perfect season. the west coast USC has now lost that 04 NC title and accoding to some that title should be given to Aub.

i got my 50% statistic from this guy as far as SEC apperances percentage in the NC since 92.

i have not researched it...i'm guessing he has.

either way...for the past 5 years we have had 4 SEC NC teams not only play for the NC but also win.

That's a pretty good statistic.

NCAA strikes again

Man, I feel for AJ . Dawgs are a little short handed like the Gamecocks.
Shame that great players have to sit over silly chit.

Ought to be a 'nutter slobber knocker game. Glad I'm not on the field.
:hillbilly:

Pretty big early game.

Canes and Buckeyes....  talk about big!

Who really cares, the SEC is king, Gamecocks rule, and the Hurricanes will win it all this year.

Jeremy

:cheers::clap:

I hope you are right, but we have this little stop in OHIO on saturday.....and a couple of other ranked teams further down the line.

i'm just here to talk smack and stir crap up.

I'm not puting too much faith into 18-21yr old kids that have never met me, will never meet me and most of which will never go on to play pro ball.

I didn't even do too well with an 18 yr old exwife for that matter lol

definately looks like it will be a great football season.

Caution: objects in the rear view mirror are larger than reality.

You know...like the older I get the faster I was.
:hillbilly:

"Played in" being the operative word. Like the Boss says "Glory Days".

Facts are facts...and the truth hurts.

USC will never amount to more than a stepping stone in the SEC East. When making comparisons to other teams (see the post that drew me out of the woodwork - good job BTW), it helps to have a handle on the facts and a little perspective - past, present and future included. :grinpimp:

i wouldn't go putting that in stone just yet.

We have a really young, really talented team.

I wouldn't be so sure that we don't upset a few of the big guys over the next few seasons.
