now its them + NUT??!

i am going crap anerican made Armada shopping now
They make Nissan Patrols in america now with an Armada badge? Side note only time when American made products (1st gen armadas) were better built then the 2nd gen JP version.

1.8L 1ZZ-FE are the best Corollas of all time.
Since this thread is shot anyways....

100% correct. 1ZZ's are gutless, but 100% indestructible (same as a 2UZ!)
I have two Matrix's I use as enduro cars, one with 240k, the other with 300k. Full throttle for an hour on end at the local short tracks. I've lost rad's, nuclear overheated them, looped the trans lines and done boat/trailer races, beat the ever living hell out of them (and these are just junk >$500 cars mind you) and they absolutely refuse to die. They are so slow but so reliable they almost always net me a top 3.

Sounds fun.

Sure it's not a "fast" car, but the flat torque curve on the 1zz is actually really really nice. The car pulls well at low to mid RPMs, perfect as a DD for zipping around town. Even better if you have one with a 5 speed manual. The best thing driving-wise about the Corolla is how light it is. My 2006 CE with the 5 speed manual is right about 2500 lbs. (matrix is probably a bit heavier). It's fun. The car is reliable, cheap to run, tons of mods available, these days folks are turbo'ing them, etc. It's the perfect complement to my 100 series.

What is the cost of the HG replacement on a 200 series?

Given it is such a big problem, debating how much I need to save instead of buying X mas presents, since this is bound to happen.
Start a gofundme

My sarcasm meter is terrible, cant tell if serious or not?

Not sure about the 200 but I was researching Gen3 Prius for my daughter and apparently HG issues are very common on those, to the tune of about $3500-4000.

Wow sounds like TOYOTA is now SUBARU???!!!

$4000 for HG - that is a big price tag.

Wonder how this will hurt 200 values down the road.... as now this is widely exposed problem

Wondering how much correlation there is between 3UR head gasket problems and the cracked radiator problem. Thought being that the average non-enthusiast operator might have an overheat event be their first indication that their radiator let go at the part number boss. If that happened perhaps there was heat damage to either the head or gasket that is causing some gaskets to fail early. This isn't to say it's the only cause. Obviously maintenance plays a big role.

I'd probably be more than a bit hesitant to buy a 200 with a replaced radiator if I couldn't discuss with the owner how it transpired.

Just saw a 170K mile 2013 200 series at dealer. 1 owner, serviced at same selling dealer since day 1.

Rad replaced at 103k. Rad again replaced at 155K. No over heat, preventative replacement by service advisor. Owner has 4 200 series in multiple locations.

In for HG repairs as we speak. Coolant smell in exhaust, and filling overflow bottle weekly.

No overheating.

I thought seeing my 220,000 mile unknown history head gasket in good shape would reduce the worries. But I get it, I tore my heads off preventatively  Keep up on your coolant changes (double them if you want) and inspect the cooling system for leaks every oil change. If you're that worried you can always start a sinking fund so that worst case scenario you'd have the money to have it fixed.

Ha…….glad i sold my LC just before this news broke……

I will keep driving my disposable F-O-R-D.

You mention, you wont being using Toyota pink coolant anymore. Which exact coolant will you be using and what recommend intervals will you being changing it?
I like the Asian Zerex red coolant and I will probably do a radiator drain and fill every 2 years just to be on the safe side. Its cheap insurance.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Good riddance!!

Will you finally leave our forum and go hang out with the Prado GX boys and the F150 boys, or will you keep posting about how unreliable your LC was due to the infotainment failure?
