IMO the 200 series potentially issues are taken out of proportion and the beauty of owning one is that any which do occur are easily recognized with a known fix.

I would recommend 200 series owners build before around mid 2018 (when the update radiator was introduced) to actively monitor the hair crack or for planned long term ownership to just change it out. All the other potential issues like coolant pump or valley leak or valve cover leaks come in gradually and can be addressed when becoming annoying.

I still see the 200 series as being build to last and is strong (the Tinkerer pointing this out in his excellent videos), able to last 300k+ miles which is probably ahead of all the latest gen Toyota’s on the market.

i wale up every morning, and check the hair crack on my radiator before kissing wife or brushing teeth

the pleasure of owning of a reliable 200….

to be honest a 2023 1.8 corolla is cheaper and more reliable to get to 300 k miles than a 21 LC

New thread: What is the best AT tire for my Corolla? Mostly farm roads with occasional light rock crawling.

No gonna lie , I considered a Corolla for daily driving ... And then just the impure thought of seeing my self every morning arriving to the office and clicking on the key fob as I walk away from my parked car and seeing a Corolla, makes me cringe !

PS: I had a 2006 or was 5, Corolla... Not a single SINGLE issue with that 4 cylinder beast... I had BFGs on it 😜

Assume you first kiss your wife, then brush your teeth and only then kiss the LC radiator to keep her happy…

Common Ryan, get your priorities sorted here…

i had a 85 corolla GTS.

No more. Leave the Corolla for the employees. They need to get to work

I am ok being in unreliable Lc on aide of the road with busted radiator and HG

Still have mine - 2006 Corolla CE 5 speed MT. It puts "Land Cruiser" reliability to shame.
Agreed!! They might not be the most bad-ass car, but they will get you there and back, for a looooonnnng time. We've had several in our family over the years. My nephew has an '05 now with just over 400K on it, he can't give it up. The only real problem he's had is the weird odometer rollover issue. Easy fix. He just ordered a new GX550, so it may get put out to pasture.

Please disown him for going from the most reliable engine, to the worst engine toyota ever built in the V6 TT

And they'll get you there and back at close to 40 mpg as well.

Anyways keeping the 05 corolla as a backup / spare vehicle is a no brainer in this situation
