Welding thru zinc? Really? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I work with a guy that teaches welding and he has a lot of experience with fabrication. He suggested I solder them back on. Fill the joint with solder so water can't get in. Makes sense to me, I'm gonna give it a try. It's how they used to put car bodies together "back in the day", so it must work. Just use some good high tin ratio solder and paste flux.

I used the 3M weld through primer when I welded the sliders on. It was used on the backside of the slider plate and where we scuffed up the frame for welding.
