I was reading https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series...aux-lights-using-factory-fog-light-wires.html about using fogs' wiring for light bar. SINCITY100 wrote: "And DO NOT run lights that have a considerable draw (65W+) or "high power" lamps..the factory wiring/relay wont hold up to the higher power requirements"

The 9011 HIR for HIGH beam are 65w which by itself is not much more then the OEM recommended bulb of 60w. But when using a 9011 HIR in LOW beams, could this be to much for factory spec of 51w on wiring/relays, especially when running with HIGH beams on?

I'm not sure what the spec was of the wiring on my 80 series but I imagine it was similar if not identical to the 100 series. I ran the highs there with no problems for a couple of years. The only item I'm not a hundred percent on is the 9011 bulbs in the fogs.

Is this with High beam on, that would be very bad in fog or blizzard?

Any way to make fog independent or with just parking lights, this is what I'd like to see a mod for?

Sorry, I guess I didn't understand that you were looking for something more than the high beam mod... I do see what you're saying though, it would be nice to run fogs without the headlights, but a new system seems necessary for that to work.

*******
Easy! Turn the fog switch off! :) .............OH cute........:bang:......LOL

For that you'd need to set up a separate relay. Completely doable, just not the scope of this mod.
Can you point to a mud thread on this fogs with parking lights mod, I've looked with my tired old eyes?

**** yes I've done the mod. I love it because it's increased light output at night on dark country roads in Michigan.
Flashing on-coming for leaving on brights with this mod along with HIR bulbs, well they'd think is was the second coming ...I saw the light........

I was looking around for a minor mod to run fogs with parking lights, when I came across that wattage alert from SINCITY100. I did remember, your experience with all 9011's in your 80 series Elijah, just though I'd through out anyway.

No worries.

It should be a minor mod, just not as sexy as six bulbs at once so not much interest here I guess.

I did find it done (very simply) on a 2006 Tacoma (thread), but uses positive side of relay. I think we have to get negative ground to work with parking switch don't we?
If pin 17 was for high beams can we use same technique but different pin for parking lights?

Standard on European model 100 is that the fogs come on with parking lights.

(Around here it is illegal to run fogs together with low beam, unless vehicle is more than 3.5 metric ton)

That's the way it should be IMHO.

I'm guessing it's controlled in the switch, anybody known for sure:confused:

It's probably controlled in the switch. A rotary contact to go from off/parking/on/auto, a set of lever contacts for low, a set of lever contacts for high, and the rotary contacts for the fogs that are only active when the low beam contacts are engaged.

In older Toyotas where engaging the high beams also deactivated the low beams, it was as simple as removing the switch, opening it up, and bending the contact arms for the low beams in the middle so the high beams don't deactivate them.

I'll try to modify my headlight stalk switch soon and take some pics.

That would be really cool, can't wait to see how it works out and the pic.

uHu, any chance you could confirm part numbers for your European Fog relay and Headlight switch aka Dimmer switch, I'm wondering if we can switch to European switch & relay?

I know I'm asking alot, but do you have a Eurpoean FSM EWD (Electric Wiring Diagram) or know if its the same as our U.S. version?

UZJ100 DIMMER SWITCH
U.S. 84140-33020
Europe 84140-20560

Fog Relay
U.S 90080-87010
Europe 90987-02012

This is the EWD I have. Is it the same?
It looks right - the diode makes the fogs not come on with DRL, only after turning the lights on manually.
Will check the relay ##.

Are you sure that diode isn't feeding a circuit to show a local indicator on the dash that the fogs are on?

If you look at the hot side of your fog solenoid, it's coming off the tail light circuit where ours is coming off the headlight circuit. This is why you get fogs with the parking lights.

Oregon, what looks different compared to our U. S. diagram other than what you've stated^^^^^^^?

I just ordered five 9011's form Home Depot. Totally an impulse buy! But the stock bulbs suck, and I love me some light!

Well we had to talk about something while we wait for everyone's bulbs to arrive.

Thank you for the info.......

Anything else observed with that keen eye of yours, that you care to share with us? :hhmm:
