Home Depot as a source for auto bulb … Cool they give me a 10% military discount (helps with taxes), thanks for the heads up.

Replacing All SIX with 9011 HIR, will be interesting to see how that works out................…........…. Candlepower recommends swapping (with minor mod) our factory recommended: high beam HB3 60 watt 9005 for 9011 HIR bulb & low beam HB4 51 watt 9006 for 9012…………..ONLY………….

Fogs, more is not always better.:steer:

Can’t wait to see the before and after pictures, do you think the 98 TLC has the original factory installed bulbs?

Interesting, but unless I'm missing something aren't the bulbs in the HD link 9012's? You guys are saying you're replacing the stockers with 9011's... Seems like we'd need these ones too?

You aren't missing anything. The OEM way would be to use the 9012's in your low beams and fog lights. I will modify the plastic plug on the 9011's to work in the harness where the 9012's would have gone. I did this in my 80 series years ago with great results. When my 80 series ended up with 4" of lift and riding on 40" tires, it wasn't so great for oncoming traffic, so I went back to standard bulbs.

Osram has a new one shipping this month, Nightbreaker Unlimited, claiming to have more light and life them the plus. Just ordered six from powerbulbs.com. If you use the promo code 'loyaltypb' you get a 10% discount.

Alright oftpiste in getting the latest release....Nightbreaker Unlimited...kudos to you.

Little bit of a data point from Daniel Stern:

OEM low 9006 - 55 watts - 1000 lumens
OEM high 9005 - 65 watts - 1700 lumens

HIR low 9012 - 55 watts - 1870 lumens
HIR high 9011 - 65 watts - 2350 lumens

You will be very happy with a switch to HIR bulbs.

Now this is going to be interesting; Elijah with six 9011 HIR vs. oftpiste with six ONB Unlimited direct replacement bulbs.

Pre install comparison:

Cost wise Elijah takes the lead $108 list, but is slowed with minor modification for fitment.

Easy of install oftpiste moves out at a quicker pace, and with a lighter wallet $173.00 list. (edit: DN from $385 error)

Can't wait to see the pictures, some guidelines as to how taken would be helpful for comparison, any ideas?

Do we know the lumen output of the ONB bulbs?

Those don't appear to have much of a difference than the stock bulbs??? Less than 10% more light? Am I missing something here?

Anyone know if Cary is still around? That guy was the absolute go to guy when it came to automotive lighting on this forum. He had some amazingly informative posts on this subject.

I've been in the lighting industry for 6 years...I thought I knew lighting, I thought I knew...until I came across Cary. That guy makes me look like a noob.

You found HIR's and home depot?! Got a link (Homedepot.com is one of my 10 most 'hate to search' sites, it sucks bad)? Let's have the link!

I've been running HIR lows in the 100 and love them, I would prefer a full projector HID retro but have more important 100 issues to work on so the HIR is a no brainer and I may never change. I do think even the HIR could benefit from upgraded supply wiring, anything to keep the voltage up. I think cruiser outfitters may have a power wiring kit available but don't quote me on that.

Andy, have you ever checked the voltages at the headlight plug on the 100? I did and found the voltage drop to be less than .1V compared to the alternator output. Compared to FJ62 stock harness, where you can see a difference of over 1.5V, the 100 series harness seems to work just fine.
I love the Phillips HIR drop-in, well nearly, bulbs. Longevity has been good so far, too.

Another two cents worth. Great idea on the 2011's for high and low. Right behind you in the line at Home Depot and will post pics when they arrive. But IMH experience, the volume of the fog lamps is restrictive for heat dissipation. Experience on another vehicle, even with advice from Mr. Stern, was quick bulb burnout AND heat damage to the plug. Not good and pita to find and replace plug\wiring. Couldn't find specs to back up my experience so consider the two cents comments when judging the value...

Kudos

BTW, kudos to 2001LC for starting this thread. Very informative and helpful....although my credit card bill just went up because of it :steer:
