update on the NAPA(not sure who makes them) 9005's +150 feet I stuck in last week(because I had to drive on Thanksgiving)........they suck, well maybe not compared to another 9005 but compared to the JD HIR1's I had.....they suck. If I didn't have my Cibie fog lights on I could hardly see......part of that may just be my age ;)

so I ordered a pair of Wagner(Phillips) HIR1's on Amazon for $15 each

my old HIR1 were the original "balloon" style, which had the coatings or whatever, looks like new HIR's are now different...

Anyone use OPT7 9006 Leds in 2001 style headlamp housing?

I want to know how the scatter is/looks before I drop $90 on a pair.

Thanks!

do 9011's work in the low beams without any issues? These 100 lights are terrible.

A couple months ago, I put in Phillips HIR 9011 in the low beams and 9012 in the fog lights (one had burnt out so I replaced both, decided to use 9012 since I figure there's less of a chance of melting the housing). The light is so much better over stock and it's awesome. I'll continue to do this in the future. The only question for me is how long the bulbs will last since they run hotter.

Update on the wagner/Phillips HIR's I replaced my old(10+ years) Toshiba HIRs a month ago

New ones are way brighter then the old Toshiba, it's a very noticable difference. I am very happy. I'd almost say my low beams are now almost as good as my H4's in the fj60.

My high beams are just normal halagon, may upgrade those now

*edit* changed to the correct numbering for the HIR to halogen conversion. Thanks for the help Dwight S

HIRs are where it is at. I used them in my old Honda Accord. They are actually so bright you need to be careful because on some head light housings they will throw light off at new and unusual angles. I had an issue with blinding truckers for a few days when I put the 9011 highs in the 9006 low beams (9012 in HIR). As soon as I realized it, I was able to adjust them down enough. IIRC, the 9011 HIR bulbs put off ~3x more lumens than the 9006 bulbs that were stock for the low beams. The HIRs do not last as long as halogens. Especially the 9011s when used in the 9006 low beams. That having been said, I didn't mind changing my headlights ~once a year. Just buy 3 and keep one in the glove box. That is what I did.

9006 = low beam = 9012
9005 = high beam = 9011
The only difference between 9011 and 9012 is the tabs around the perimeter of the housing and the watts drawn.

The best upgrade for stock housings. Dont put HID or LED bulbs in your stock housings that were designed for halogen bulbs and blind everyone and have poorer light throw down the road as well. Dont be that guy or gal.

I see conflicting info in this thread. Is 9011 or 9012 in low beam? I want the brightest possible and do not care about life span.

9006 = low beam = 9012
9005 = high beam = 9011

Between @bamabrock’s diagram and my copy of owners manual page, you need 9012 for low beam.

Heck, get two sets of each and upgrade both trucks high and low.

Thanks for the clear instructions, I ordered for my 04LC.

Has anyone tried the Vosla 9012 +30 yet?

Happened to come across them on CandlePower.com.

Yup, those are them. I was just going to order them too. Let me know what you think. Tried to get an idea of lifespan since they aren't the LL - long life ones, but couldn't find anything.

From the candlepower website: "Lo Beam stock: 9006, 12.8V, 55W, 1006 lumens, 360 hours / Lo Beam ... HIR2(9012), 12.8V, 55W, 1875 lumens, 1000 hours"

What is HIR??

So it looks like the HIR2s should last longer...? But then I read that the GM vehicles that used it experienced shorter life but they were also used as DRLs. Time will tell I guess.
