D'oh! I have a 64 rear crossmember!

D'oh! I have a 64 rear crossmember!

Mark, i will do a better job posting in the classifieds and looking next time. Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I actually didn't even think of buying one this time. I wanted to use heavier channel and recess a 2" receiver hitch. And since my sill was shot I did all of it and body mounts together out of my work metal shop and home. Mine needs a little more fab work to look original at the spring hangers but I really like the heavy channel and factory look.

Nice work! Did you grind out all the rivets in the crossmember, or do you have an air chisel?
I may have to replace the rear crossmember on my '65, but won't know for sure until I get it all blasted.

Where does one buy a rear crossmember for an early FJ40? The only place I've found one is on Ebay and it was about $150. Most of the ones I see have the big rectangular holes for tail lights.

Mark above said he had one for sale. I used channel that matched the width (or actually height) and drilled body mount holes. I used a grinder, plasma torch, oxy fuel torch, a punch, big hammer, and a welder to patch up the work after I was done. I had to cut the frame member supports to allow for the 2" receiver hitch so it isn't factory, but I like it.

No worries. I really like how 'clean' the recessed receiver looks on a 40 series, and concur that heavy channel is a better choicer for supporting that kind of mod. For those who need to replace rear channels, you might even have an opportunity to sell a few of what you've designed there with the integral receiver.

Help with manifold vacuum line still needed...Thanks!

I still need some help with the manifold vacuum line...please! Mark gave me some great advice, but I need to keep working on it and I still have a couple questions.

The BIG question that is driving me crazy...where does a vacuum hose go from this opening (green circle)? I know this isn't a factory f155 intake manifold, but I am hoping someone can help that knows more than I do.

The left side is going down by the dizzy. But the right side (with the green circle) isn't connected to anything and I cant figure out what to do? Thanks in advance.

I have a new hose running from the base of the carb to the engine block (do I need to buy a pcv valve for the hose, because I don't see one anywhere?).

Thanks in advance.

My guess would be to just put a cap on it.
I am willing to try about anything with it, so thanks for the suggestion.
I will try restricting/capping that end today and see how it does driving.

The carb is not responding to acceleration when I put pressure on the pedal fast. Kind of dies. I rebuilt the carburetor. I thought it was the acceleration pump but I don't think there is any adjustment in the rod.
When I feather the pedal it will slowly accelerate without any problems. When I adjust the idle higher, it seems to run fine when I accelerate fast? Any suggestions?

Here is a video. The carb is acting starved of fuel...but I would like other input to figure out if I should adjust the float, install an electronic fuel pump or what?. Here is a video of it hesitating and almost dying when I hit the gas pedal.

I think it's starving for fuel. Adjust your float to the proper level.

Thanks.
Ok. I adjusted the float once and it helped. Then adjusted it some more and it helped a lot. Now it doesn't act like it is dying when I hit the gas pedal. It has a slight hesitation when i hit the pedal fast, but very minimal. I am so excited!

I love this forum.

So can someone tell me what the original carburetor(s) would have been for the 1962 FJ40 ? Would be great if someone had pics and some instruction on how I identify the two carbs I do have, and whether or not either is original. Also - will a carb from a 1F-135 motor fit the intake on a 1F-155 motor ? Thanks ...

I'm usually wrong, but here goes:

My F135 had the Aisin SD-40 1-barrel carburetor. I attached pics of mine (1966 FJ40).

Mounting plate for a 1-barrel will be very different than the 2-barrel from the F155 engine.

My 65 also has the "big window" SD-40 pictured above, although the engine has been swapped for a F145.
