I just bought 2 of the Phillips 9011 HIR from Scamazon. Curious to see how they work.

Maybe this is a stupid question... @Phil I was confused with your % increases over stock vs over 9005/9006. What is the increase of 9005/9906 over stock?

thanks

Now Im confused 9005 and 9006 are stock high and low beam bulbs

Did you need to modify your harness at all for this upgrade or is it as simple as trimming the tab and installing?

Its as simple as trimming the tab and installing. Oh, except for the low beam, you have to trim out part of the inside of the tab on the bulb. You will figure it out as soon as you compare the two.

From previous testing I found no benefit in modifying the harness. Trim and play only

My LX470 headlights now totally suck in comparison. Upgrade in the works:rolleyes:

CruiserPhil,

Have you (or anyone else used the newer version which no longer has the electo-deposited coating that reflects the filament's infrared (heat) back onto the filament, which was originally designed to maintain a greater lumen maintenance throughout its life expectancy? This new version is the only one I see CaandlePower Inc. selling. Would the lack of coating create excessive heat on the lense or a bright spot that other driver's couldn't handle in the FZJ80 headlamps? They say "Like all previous HIR2 bulbs, it does not have a blacked-out tip, which means it should not be used in road going headlamp or fog lamp designs that don't have a bulb shield completely covering at least the top half of the front of the bulb — a ring-style bulb shield that leaves the front of the bulb exposed to the lens is usually not sufficient."

Thanks in advance!

I bought the Phillips 9011, to replace low beam that had a Sylvania HB4 U 9006SU and am really disappointed. The 9011 seems to be nowhere near as bright as the Sylvania I was trying to replace. Am I missing something?

Something does not add up. Check out the link http://store.candlepower.com/hirlighting.html the new (if the same as you purchased) Philips looks to be even brighter than the old Toshiba 9011HIR I just installed and tested:meh:

Send me your Sylvania HB4 U 9006SU and I can test them using the same light meter:grinpimp:

Phil, have you tested output of the P9012/P9011 against any lamps other than stock?

Hey Mark, the short answer is no.
The HIR bulbs I test were the brightest HIR available at the time I purchased based on Candlepower.com research.

Is anyone running current 9012/9011 combination without the coating?

The Sylvania mentioned is rated at 1,000 lumens where the HIR1 9011 is rated at 2450 lumens. It doesn't make sense that the Sylvania would be brighter.

Nice Phil! I saw the high beam in person and was impressed. This is my kind of comfort upgrade. Clean and simple. something that can be used all the time and not just off road. It’s amazing how good light makes for a safer and more relaxed ride.
Side note.. I removed a friends dual row LED bar that was hanging from the upper ARB bar and relocated it to the fairlead tabs and had an immediate 15 deg decrease in engine temp. Keeping busy while my truck is in the shop for head gasket. Air flow is a must!

Appreciate all the info Phil and everyone else on this forum! Great info for Cruisers! I did talk to Kenny at Candlepower Inc and ordered the current 9012/9011 combination. I will have them by Saturday so I should be able to give my impression of the difference in light output. I agree that lighting makes a huge difference. I ran E-Spec headlights on my Jeeps and love the precise cutoff the E-Spec lenses have. With those you can run lots of wattage and never bother oncoming traffic.

Thanks again!

I've been running the 9011/9012 HIR bulbs for several years and agree with others here, they put out many more lumens for the same number of watts compared to a standard bulb. Another source for these bulbs is Susquehanna MotorSports (http://www.rallylights.com). It looks like candlepower.com is cheaper right now with their sale, but if supply becomes a problem Susquehanna is an alternative.

TrickyT - are yours the style with the coated tip or the new style without the coating?

Thanks in advance!

No coating, just (visibly) clear glass.
