Tesla style head unit - has anyone seen this?

yeah - i came to the same conclusion about that extra harness. One fit perfectly, one didn't - set that aside assuming it was for a different vehicle/market. Let me know if you figure out the AC issue. Very little is working on mine.
Thanks for testing. Looks like not so great of an option if you lose ac. These Chinese gimmicks look great and are headed in the right direction, but just dont have the quality from all I can tell... same goes for the 10 inch screen too. I've been follow that thread for a year and they report similar results.

if you guys posted detailed pictures of your harnesses to the new unit there might be people that can have a look.

not having any output at all from the thing should really be a fuse issue. There's too many systems to not have any life coming out.

not having AC only... seems I'd manually check the clutch with techstream and then after a battery pull maybe check again.
I don't know if you can do the button thing and check for diagnostic codes on the touch screen, but I'd try that also.
If it's emulating you would think you'd also get the error message screen. It's difficult to think about considering what gets tossed out and it looks like all you keep is the AC amp.
if there are two different side harness assemblies that should probably be one for 2003-2006 early and another one for 2006 late -2007
I think for USA and one other country.

It would probably be difficult to get real pin outs from them. IDK. if you had that I think it wouldn't be a problem to wire up...

I still would like to see good pics of the back and the harnesses they use. I wonder about the allure of this if you're still stuck with the stock stereo and amp without an option to change. Maybe there is an option. I don't see how they could have decent audio out of a hacked up android tab rom. Cool screen though.
I'll help if I can.

well, installed it today, everythings connected, works with the ML system, except no AC. anyone got any clues?

For the AC to work you need to "transplant" a logic board from the factory MFD to the new head unit.

Correct.

To me, the video is misleading for someone starting with the factory unit. The unit in the video looks similar to my Naviav unit, so the hvac logic board/box transplant had already been done - it does not show it in the video. There is a silver box that communicates between the hvac and the stereo that must be transplanted in order to work. Otherwise, the buttons will not be communicating with anything.

I do not have this specific unit, but all aftermarket android units of this type will have to have a transplant on 100's with nav/hvac combined. It is not difficult, but it does take some time and patience. The effort is well worth it compared to the antiquated factory system.

im not so sure this applies to the tesla screens. the tesla screens have new hard buttons for the defrosters, this unit reuses the OEM tapedeck/defogger buttons. i think that is obsolete in these newer models. it has a canbus decoder inline instead. there is no metal box that comse with the tesla models, so there isnt a place to put those two boards, and ontop of that, there would be 3 other connectors needed, but the tesla system doesnt have any extra connectors, unless you use the 2nd breakout hardness, and it has one thin, data style connector, not a wiring harness type. Im going to dig into this more when i get back from vacation mid week, but im not confident this applies to our applications

Any more luck with this?

Watching this thread with interest. It would be great if this proves to be a reliable plug and play solution

back from vacation. gonna tinker with it tomorrow. a guy on the FB group said his buddies in columbia installed one in an LC but had to change some settings to get AC to work. going to do a video chat with them tomorrow to see what we need to do, and if it fixes the issue. will report back.

Well, still can’t get it working. The mfr is “working with their technicians” to see what they can do to help. Damn shame. It’s great otherwise. Is there another aftermarket AC controller out there? I can put that wherever if possible

Sorry to hear the issue is not resolved. Maybe the mfr will be able to work through the problem. They could def sell a bunch of these if this proved to be a reliable plug and play... Thanks for sticking your neck - er - wallet out there to serve as a test case

subbed.

Reporting in ...

02 LC. Watched the provided video and started connecting things up. There is an alternate wiring harness which I didn't use [didn't fit].

I swapped the HVAC 'black box' as seen in videos from the truck to the new head unit. Pretty straight forward and connected it into the provided loom.

Once plugged in, HVAC works. Front, back, AC, etc. Connected to phone bluetooth with no problem - can see song playing from phone and affect it with the interface. Turning on the radio causes the antenna to go up/down.

No sound though. I happen to have see an overland shop in TX that bypassed the stock amp - how do I wire into the stock setup? Tried all available combos to see if something came to life ... no dice.

Will reach out to their support now and hope for a quick response overnight. Fingers crossed!

How is the feel of the buttons/knobs? Do they feel like they will hold up over time or do they feel like a bunch of melted coffee straws someone melted and molded. Also, do a quick scratch test in an inconspicuous area before finalizing install--does the paint (especially on the backlit buttons) seem quality and durable enough to last a good 5 years?
Does the interface seem easy to navigate while driving? How is the response/sensitivity of the touchscreen? How is the radio reception in comparison to the OEM unit?
Id also highly suggest that you install with lots of strategically placed felt tape in any place you can imagine a rattle/buzz can develop. When i put a seicane in my wifes car it now buzzes at idle occasionally (temp dependant)
Sorry for the question bomb. I also am genuinely interested in how these units turn out (once the kinks are ironed out).

Buttons feel good to touch and well made. Good idea on the scratch test - will do that tomorrow in day light. I didn't readily scratch it during install, and was resting it on gear knob and front fascia.

Haven't taken it for a drive. Will take note and report back on any weirdness. I'm very aware of those things and understand what you're asking. Will see if noise develops while driving around tomorrow.

Awaiting response from support on wiring to factory amp/audio.

Do the AC/Music/Android apps all work together or is it like the other 10" screen where you have to go out of "apps" in order to control AC or factory CD/Radio?
