I’ve gotten another Saudi 79 via Saudi. Great truck. @Meshal stole all of my business by refreshing everything under the truck before he shipped it (along with the usual seals and gaskets)

This is a REAL nice truck. 100,000 kilometers. Still smells new. I picked it up last week with the 💩75 I’m about to make into a rock whomper.

All I’m doing on this one is adding a Terrain Tamer Parabolic suspension and tires and wheels.

This is the second 79 I’ve done. The first was Ward Harris’ truck. It turned out so nice we just did it again.

As you can see Meshal left me some good tunes.

Back to the suspension.

I did a before/after sheet for height to see what we end up with

These things come with a silly amount of stink bug in preparation for hauling the entire village or a few camels in the bed.

As you may know, this is a one ton truck. Hence the 75 leaf springs in the rear packs. They are stinking heavy. 95# per spring.

That said, the 79 elliptical is no wimp weighing in at 77# each.

Both are hard as hell for this old man to deal with

Side by side is wild though

The front of these things is a coil setup similar to a 80 series. Easy to swap in the springs and shocks.

After measurements are up 2.5 ish in the front and 1.5” in the back making it sit with a much better looking 1.5” rake versus the stock 3”

Here it is with the sand tires and the split rims. I just drove it 45 minutes down to @wct49 for some tires, a battery and some wiper blades. I’ll report back with some pictures with the proper tires and some OEM Steelies tomorrow.

@orangefj45 said the Terrain Tamer was worth every penny and he was/is right.

I have put 4,000 miles on my 79 since collecting it at Jackson airport May 9. I drive it every day. My Saudi 100 sits.

Now I just need @Cruisers and Co to give it some more stink.

@Meshal better find some more ‘cause they are just about perfect once they get the Nolen treatment.

Are you going to turbo yours?

Are you going to turbo yours?
Depends on Johnny and his experience from the FZJ-FTE 55 build. Not sure if turbo or piggyback to make the coil pack a little more modern, tune-wise.
First up, likely, is a H152 and lots of sound deadener in the cabin. Also, you were right, shoulda done a head unit and door speakers.
I have places to go and people to see. Boise is kinda sorta a long drive from where I gotta go.

That thing made 411 hp and 535 ftlbs at the wheels… we stopped because the h55f was bound to say no more at some point. H152 is stronger… How much you want? I’ll be your huckleberry 🍻🤣

You are both bad influences in a very good way.
Order of priority:
1. Noise abatement
2. H152
3. Audio
4. Engine s***e
Plans laid for #s 1-3. Need to research #4.
Team sport. 👍🙏

Let me know when you want to talk about engine s***e! Also, before picking a clutch for the H152 if you are actually going to go down the turbo/power route I have some suggestions.

Sorry to hijack the thread @wngrog Someday I will be a cool kid with a 70 but for now I will live vicariously through you and @wardharris

Nolen is a tolerant soul. That said, I will start a new 70 Tech thread on performance upgrades for GCC 1FZs. Yes, the 80 and 100/105 share the same engines but i own a 79 and would love to have a soft top Saudi MWB. Every time I see @Meshal or @wngrog pimping a ride (73, 75 ute, 75 Troopy, 80, 100 GX, etc.) I cannot help but think about how a mild turbo could justify (functionally) an older 1FZ powered vehicle. Ooh... 75 Series Troopy with a C&C Stage II including Nomad equipped A750F.
Back in the real world,I am committed to doing some thing(s) to improve the engine and it seems that a mild OEMish turbo is a likely solution. Basically, “what would Mr. T do?”
Until the Pryor Family Garage sees its own 7X I am happy to have y'all as the truck's official Uncle Huckleberry. A 7X Series show truck?

I wanted to drive this thing to see if it needed caster correction. I did not feel Wards did but I never got the printout.

As you can see, caster is -.2. It’s supposed to be +1. That is often enough to make a 40 feel squirrelly but not this truck.
