@ToyotaDyna I love this truck so much. It drives so well and is just so smooth.

I’ve been daily driving her the past couple of days. I’ve had some minor electrical issues, but I’ve gotten almost everything sorted out now. Thank you so much for an awesome truck and your unending support.

For anyone that has seen any pictures of my barn and garage, you’ll know that I am a terrible mess. So I was absolutely delighted to find the ignition bezel that I KNEW that I had somewhere and just couldn’t put eyes or hands on. I feel a great sense of relief.

I’m not even going to put it on right now…

Well I don’t know how you misplaced that in 10,000 sf of TEQ heaven. 🤪

Happy to report that I got the @Lutz Auto clock replacement multigauge up and running today. Huge shoutout to Bryan for amazing customer support- I bought one of the first kits he put together 4 years ago, and the boost gauge was faulty. He shipped me a replacement under warranty and after upgrading the firmware and spacing the screen away from the bezel with a pair of washers, it works flawlessly.

What a cool product.

Two weeks ago, I noticed that there was a lot of brake dust on the front rims and not on the rear… So I pulled the wheels expecting to do pads and maybe rotors… Well, it went deeper. The rotors were all decently scored and both the left and right front AND left rear calipers were completely seized. Meaning I was only breaking on the right rear! And the funny thing is, the truck didn’t drive awfully or pull.

I headed to NAPA for some rear rotors, four calipers, and I used OEM front rotors and pads. I pulled out a set of Wit’s End stainless lines… A real blast from the past.

One of the left front caliper bolts had a second washer… Looks like it was a non-OEM replacement. Two fresh bolts replaced it.

I splurged on a new tub of NAPA universal grease after about 15 years.

I swapped out the wheels and tires to trial some 17” steelies I borrowed from the 79 single cab. I dig it.

New steel lug nuts (90942-01007) were required.

@Meshal pointed out that I’m missing the left front fender stripes. I’ll have to search for a replacement.

Sweet Ride !

@GTV @gilmorneau I got these from @joekatana.

They are indeed 17×6.5 6 lug. I thought they were Hilux rims, but I could be wrong.

The other day @aljollano and one of his shop employees came down to pick up a couple of motors… We got to fire up the Toyota forklift. Then A.J. and Axel helped me bleed the brakes on the 80 to get her back on the road. The brakes aren’t perfect and I need to bleed them again, but at least the 80s is drivable again.

I still have a vexing problem. The glow plug light just stays on.

Trying to follow @gilmorneau ’s desmog advice, I tried hooking up the high and low boost VSV‘s as well as the MAP sensor. Am I hooking the right things up to manifold boost pressure? The damned light is still on.

I have the glow screen in place but not hooked up. Do I need to run a hot wire and a ground to complete the circuit?

You can remove all VSVs and the intake heater without the glow light if you deactivate part of the Emission ECU circuit, check this thread:

SUCCESS!

Thank you to @gilmorneau and @HDJ80L.

I broke out the EWD and used the EGR supplement from @gilmorneau. Man, that was essential reading to help me understand the EGR circuits.

I was able to depin the ECU BATT connector (black with red). Depinning REQUIRES liberal use of a heat gun on the brittle 29 year old connectors, and even then, getting the white safety bridge off of the main connector body was extremely difficult. The Wit’s End prison shank was absolutely necessary to dep in this. I heat shrinked the BATT wire and pushed it out of the way.

Interestingly, I had to keep the turbo VSV’s and MAP sensor connected. I splurged on some new vacuum hose and T’s. But now everything works, and the glow light stays off.

I used random brackets that I found laying around the engine bay to tidy everything up for now.

Thank you for the assistance, gents.

@ikarus sure did. The dash is quiet for now.

I also replaced the hood struts with new. They just suddenly gave out in the 40° Texas cold snap that we’ve been struggling through.

I don’t think I mentioned this earlier. I’ve got to thank my good friend Jimmy @CenTXFJ60 for giving me a factory 80 hitch. I had it powder coated and threw it on a couple months ago. I love that the part number is right there.
