Got home from Florida on the 19th, still feels funny to be wearing shoes and socks.

Hit the garage Sat. afternoon and got alot done. Scout box is c-clamped inplace, have to move the radiator over an inch or two(no biggie), had to reorder a different steering u-joint to the box(more time I don't have), mounting the pump is being a pain(engine is mounted by a plate across the front) no time to fab up regular engine mounts,or redo factory pump mounts, so will probably have to throw money at it and get new style pump mounted to the head and all that comes with it.

Also just to add to the fun, work is changing a bunch of stuff and ramping up in mid June, so longer hours.

Just the usual s*** storm to fight through to get ready for PYS.

Looked at something like that but with my tube fenders it works better to have the shaft inboard to clear the mounting tube. Besides it shocked me but the rad. mount is only held in by two bolts and they came right off with just a little pb blaster. Not bad for something that was put together 39 years ago.

OK got the head mount power steering pump kit. But I'm not smart enough to figure it out, no instructions and can't find any on the web. Any one have this set up they can post pics of?

Duh, after removing my head from my ass I figured it out.

Oh good, that was going to be the first step of the instructions anyway!

Sent from this here eyePad.

After looking at the dents in my old axel housing ,and the way my new one is turned up, I'm looking to add some protection to the diff. I've seen them for the 79-84 but none made for the cruiser. Any one know of anyone making these for a cruiser? Will the mini one fit on the cruiser close enough?

Sounds like it's time for some "Booty Fab"!!!!

I just took some plate and cut and bent it to make an extra thick layer of skin and welded if to the pumkin. It worked well when I wheeled.

I thought I should follow up with an update. After finaly getting the 40 running, it made its first wheeling trip this past weekend.

The truck now has scout power steering with the 4x4 labs hy-steer. SOA, sm420, lock-rites front and rear, longfield super 30 set, and 4-wheel disc brakes. 36" TSL's on the rear and 35" TSL radials on the front(running what I got till a decision is made on what to buy).

After a great day of wheling at the Badlands I am very happy with the whole set up. The power steering made a HUGE improvment to the rig. Arms and shoulders felt much better at the end of the day. It was extremly noticable going down steep hills under brakeing, and in the rocks. I only once noticed the locker causing any dificulty in the steering and just letting off the gas for a sec. cured that issue. I do not have a cooler on the steering at this time, but did not notice this to be an issue. The only complaint I have is I seem to have lost a lot of my turning radius. It really seems worse to the right. I am running the 4x4 labs 1" drop pitman arm that is about 6" long. Nothing I can't live with but it seemed to better before.

The SOA in the front is more tippy feeling on the road, but never made me feel unstable on the trails. My one change is my shackels, I currently have extended shackels that have been on the truck since I bought it(at least 4" or more bolt to bolt), and plan to change to stock length soon just to lower the truck some. It just looks too tall. I have 10" clearance from tires to fender in the rear and 14" in the front. Tube fenders in the front and rears cut all the way up to inner fender in the rear. Plus it is about 7'1.5" tall and the garage door opening is only 7' ask me how I know.

The extended wheelbase did seem to be helpfull in some climbs around the quarry, but all in all not noticable.

Thanks to all for the info and help along the way, this truck is by NO means done so more guidance will be needed in the future.

You red 40 guys could start your own club.
Cool to see them on the trail.

We have started our club, but its so exclusive only us members know about it.
