I'll put some pics up of the A/C components. Check back tomorrow. I'm still trying to determine if I need to replace the pitted lifters and does that mean the camshaft should be inspected.

Honestly I don't know for shure but I would expect they need to be changed. I would have the camshaft checked any way considering the state of some parts in your engine.

A/C compressor

I found a replacement A/C compressor or so I hope. The guys at discountacparts.com
tell me the Nippondenso part numbers off my HJ47 compressor match up to the one they sell which is supposedly OEM new. The picture they show looks identical. If anyone out there knows of a better source for these parts, let me know. Here's a pick of mine on the bench; it worked but not very well here in Florida.
I'll put some pics of the other components that are part of the system. It's obviously something they didn't do in the factory I don't think. I know there were a ton of imports into the U.S. that installed A/C at the port of entry.

Cleaned and polished oil cooler and timing gear cover

Mindless work, but satisfying none the less.

Got the Head back from the machine shop

Does every 2H head have a kangaroo stamped on it? I saw this when i took it off, but now that it's back from the shop, you can really see it. Maybe Toyota thought the Aussies would appreciate it ????

I believe that is an after-market head made in Melbourne, Victoria by an outfit called 'Turbo Fit Pty Ltd'. The owner's name is Tom and he is not someone I would ever trust again - but he makes a good performance head which has a very high nickle content.

Cheers,

Josh

It also has TORA stamped on it

Does this help identify it?

AllHead made the Kangaroo head

Mark Selbst from AllHead emailed me to say they were the manufacturer of the Kangaroo head. He said they used to make 150 a month before the Chinese flooded the market with cheap low quality heads. They got out of the market at that point. He stated their heads were high quality cast iron. Does that mean high nickel content; I don't know.

Valve cover polished

I thought about painting the valve cover like some of the other members. But in the end cleaning it up seemed better. It needs more polishing I think though.

Floor board replacement

I got the replacement floorboard from CCOT and after looking at it and the job involved, I decided the experts needed to do this.

Freeze plug replacement

I had a small amount of coolant in the oil when I drained it (3 or 4 tablespoons came out before the oil started draining)), so the search was on for where it was coming from. This freeze plug was the most likely suspect. I was worried that the head gasket was blown, or worse the head was cracked or warped. It turned out the head was fine and the head gasket looked good, so I'm hoping this freeze plug, which looked very corroded, is my answer. The first shot is the bad plug next to the opening and the second is the newly installed plug.

Color

I've decided to go with Dune Beige for the color. I already had the shop mix some up to see if it looks right; it does and I think the clasic color will look nice. i considered a green shade a friend did on his 40, but the dessert color looks correct on this 47.

Color code 416

No it's 416 Dune Beige. PPG paint code 23754. If you go on the CCOT (Cool Cruisers of TEXAS) website, they show different 40's with the various color options. But they also have links to paint companies that offer vintage color paints for toyota's as well as other makes. That's where i got the correct PPG paint code. PPG being a U.S. paint manufacturer that is very high quality.

Smurfed

This looks ridiculous, but yet I can see a new motor under the smurfiness. Maybe the other non-blue parts will help, also the tape needs to come off.

Oil cooler

Oil cooler re-installed, waiting for Centrifugal oil filter housing.

Centrifugal oil filter

Got the oil filter housing cleaned up and installed. I ordered a new o ring for the centrifugal oil filter. The one on there looks like someone wrapped it with some kind of plastic. It probably leaked, so they added the wrap to make it seal better. O-ring cost $10, but when it'll get here is another question.

Got the injection pump back in

After days of trying to line up all the timing marks, I finally realised the #2 idler gear was off one tooth. So i took it off and reinstalled it in the correct position. Then everything lined up.

Bearing cap check

Got the oil pan back, but decided to pull a few bearing caps to check the wear before installing it. They looked good and the plastigage says they are OK.
