once you attempt to start charging, the very best aspect of SNT (free) is gone.

I do not agree that it being free is the best part. :meh:

Someone new trying to take over an event with 400 - 500 rigs would be truly overwhelmed without prior event experience. Much of what Jim does is not really documented.

If there was a fee, FoOD could benefit and it might cut down the total number of attendees to a more-reasonable number (?) With the price of gas, a fee for the event would not increase my total out-of-pocket by a significant percentage.

OK -- How about "one of the unique aspects"?

So, to play devil's advocate, how do you control who attends? How do you control who camps with the group or participates in the partying? If it's available to anyone, what does the registration fee bring to the registrant that no one else would get?

There is a link on the Oceano Dunes web page that shows the CEQA document (California Environmental Quality Act) that was required for the FoOD 4th of July poker run. It's 75 pages. 75! Just to be allowed to set up a 200 x 150 area for vendors, and to do a 150 vehicle poker run.

It's going to take a special group of people to deal with all of that if you want to charge.

I am so f'in there.

I'll be there with the family this year.

the best part of this event is that it's a volunteer-driven one with good people and good vibes and people showing up on the spur of the moment and some looseness to it. You make that a fee event, with an umbrella organization, you'd lose a lot of the good vibes IMO.

I just gotta make it this year. Had to cry myself to sleep for missing it last year.

Ok guys well be there again... Missed last year ( in the hospital giving birth to our daughter! )...

As far as future snt s , what if a few cal clubs stepped up divided up the work load so it's enjoyable by all...

Club a - set up camp area
club b- poker run

club c-walk run
club d-fire wood

you know somthing to that affect? I think everyone would benifit

Naturally, Pighead will be there.

So if you're driving in and parking at camp, not running the dunes You don't need one correct?

dunes
That is correct. Flags are required for all vehicles to operate in the dunes. Near the water where most people are camping, the flags are not required on your tow rig/RV/etc. The rule came into effect in January 1, 2010.

If I drive there and pick someone up at the airport, whats the closest airport and how far away is it?

Thinking of making it

San Luis Obispo is the closest regional airport- about 20 minutes from Pismo

Santa Maria, SMX. San Luis obispo. SBP. But coming from Colorado, probably Santa Barbara just over an hour away. Frontier and united have direct for about 250 round trip. SBA.

yes, SB has quite a few more long distance flights than Santa maria or SLO, I believe, including direct ones to Denver. It's a 2hrs drive to Pismo after that.

actually, I am driving going to be at the event for a couple of days, and picking up someone who is flying in on Friday. So I am looking for the closest airport. He actually isnt coming from Denver. So 2 hours one way?

From SB - yes, 2 hrs each way. Beautiful drive, but a drive none the less Ken if you are already at Pismo Beach and would be driving down to pick them up.

Now...several of us will be driving up from SoCal and depending on schedules, may be able to lend a seat from SB. Don't yet know if I'll be driving up Thursday or Friday yet.

The Wagoneers will be there taking care of Check point one during the Poker Run you can expect something special this year
