Ken, there is also a train going up northbound along the coast from San Diego thru SB etc, and I imagine (not sure) stopping also at the little train station at the entrance of the beach in Pismo. In SB for instance it's a very short taxi ride from the airport to the nearest train station (Goleta). Or could take the train from LAX or Burbank. So with some good timing (not that many trains daily) you could save a drive if your guest can take the train.
