Snippets of my story
This was my first ohv trip in a very long time. I've been going MTBing and camping with big groups from http://www.mtbr.com for 7 years or so, so I had a basic idea of what it would be like. Camping right on the sand wasn't the best, and the ATVs were noisy, but we had fun anyway.
We have a long scratch that looks like it came from a key. I'm guessing the supermarket parking lot in SLO.
Jim shared a shot or three of his tres generaciones on Friday night. Oops.
I avoided the beer bong, but not by much. The first words I heard on Sunday morning were, "The beer bong's MIA."
That 1st mile of Garcia Ridge Tr was the most technical we've tried so far. The carb pukes and we stalled on one of the hard hills and didn't have exactly enough brakes after the adjustment to hold position while toe-heeling, holding the e-brake and trying to get restarted. I'll bet my son was freaking out, but it didn't show.
My Holley carb saw it's hardest and last hills. It's craptastic.
On the way off the beach Sunday we had our front calipers lock up. I backed off the adjuster from the booster and it was ok. The brakes stayed hot through the gas and air stops and I almost bailed on the Pozo trip. Glad we didn't, because it worked ok.
Heading out of Pozo we got an ugly vibration. We made it to Atascadero. I'm thinking that the transfer case ran dry, even though I filled it before we left. I never saw a puddle. Who knows. It's needed to come out for seals since I've had it, so it will. I've got a good spare. I wish I had lower and higher gears.
I paid lots of attention to the tow bar over the last months. It worked, without a hitch.
My freebie rear-view cameras don't work in the dark. They were a bit gimmickie in any case. The hitch camera would be great if you had a tongue that you could drive under. I'll have to get a piece of wood that's the right length for a prop for next time.
