well, I'll be damned... it does say "all vehicles". I could swear that wasn't the case last year. I looked at the rules at the time and concluded that only OHV needed it...
New?

I know it is a voluntary, not manditory.

However my girls like to play on the side of the remote dunes once a while so I parked on the top of this dune for visaulablity. But still adding flag gives me extra peace of mind.

So what's the size of hole should I drill?

Regards,

depends on the flag mount gizmo... :D

Departing out of Pasadena after work on Friday...possibly early afternoon if I can swing it.

I still need to figure out what I'm going to do about a flag...may be time to run my very unique pirate flag (not red or orange, but has a red border).

I recommend flags but you'll be fine without them unless you're driving a motorcycle or ATV. You can buy them at a couple stores at the Pier Ave ramp. Don't forget duck tape as a mounting technique.

I use a ~1 x 3/4 inch stick in the Kaymar utility light "slot" behind the spare tire. I just tape the sand flag to it.

The biggest rule everyone needs to comply with is the 15mph speed limit on the beach and near campers. Sometimes it's hard to go 15mph on the wide open beach but please watch your speed. You will get a ticket. Remember there is no speed limit in the back dunes.

A note on tides and driving tow rigs, trailers and motorhomes onto the beach. Anything but high tide should be fine depending on the size of the swell.

Air down all tires if necessary. Including non-driving and trailer tires. I recommend going by sidewall bulge rather than pressure.

If it's high tide and only soft sand to drive on you only have to wait an hour or two for some hard packed sand to appear.

There will be a full moon and some EXTREME tides during SNT. The high tide on Saturday morning will be VERY BIG. That would be a bad time to arrive in a tow rig or motorhome.

The big tides are in the morning, the evening high isn't so bad.

Here's the tide table:

Jim,

Has the creek busted thru yet to the ocean?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the ocean break through to the creek at high tide, especially if we have a swell.

It really couldn't be nicer out there now.

Thanks - noticed that high tide Saturday morning is a +6.2. That's up there.

Yeah, Jim, your right. It's been nice.

Albeit a little foggy for me, but the sun is just starting to break through now at Oceano Airport. Not bad for 11am. I'm still wearing shorts and sandals at work, if that counts as a data point! :D

Pending any problems, we'll be running the trails this Saturday to scope them out. If it happens and I'm able to go, again, pending unforseen BS in life, I'll take the responsiblity of taking pictures and noting the trail condition to post up here or have Jim post on realcruiser. Just so we know.

We've paid our dues in the past...

November 9, 2002 at the first Surf N Turf it was pretty interesting.
"On Friday the day before the event I went down to the beach to observe the conditions. The beach ramp was CLOSED! The heavy rains, high tides and huge surf were pounding Pismo Beach. The waves were breaking over the entire beach and up onto the street. The beach access ramp was barricaded and there was no way anyone was driving on the beach."

Waves breaking onto the street at the Pier Avenue ramp. Waves were hitting the kiosk and running down the street.

Roland checks out the high water line near the Pier Avenue ramp.

Looking South across the creek area. High tide and waves washing over a half mile of beach.

Oh yeah, we all had a great time!

Check out the whole report HERE

would be nice to have a big pdf of the trail maps in the Pozo etc area to post here... hint, hint.... :)

Last year they weren't. Is this a change from 2005?

Trucks, no....ATV's and rails, yes.
What's the official word?

Jim, nice pics, when I first started going to Pismo beach, we could ride south to the Guadalupe dunes and there was a wood beach ramp onto the beach where the kiosk is now, And the tow truck guys were unregulated, the price went up the worse you go stuck and they would sit on the creek edge and watch and wait till you were done and headed out to sea in the swollen creek, wow the old days with a Honda 185S three wheeler
anyways, is there a source for potable water near the entrance, hauling a toy trailer with FJ-40 and would like to come dry and fill up before hitting the sand, any ideas?

I just use my old Rear Swaybar Bracket that I had laying around after I did my lift. Two holes, one mounted to the front bumper light tab and the other to the flag. Before that I just wire tied the flag to something.

Just because you have a 6 inch lift and I only have 2.5 inches? I'll just do like I did in 2004 - follow over a sacrificial lamb if I have to. :D
