You really are clueless aren’t you.
I guess so. I'm so clueless that I'm not even sure what I'm clueless about. I'm just a guy trying to work on a truck. I'm tired of trying to reach you to give you my money. I actually spent 20-30 minutes searching and reading threads like "How to contact Beno/Onur" by folks like me wanting to place orders, and typing up new PMs (that you don't accept because you are too inundated I'm sure) to you before seeing that you want to work with your exclusive, large clients. I was working to give you money.

No, I'll go where it's easier to find the information on how to reach someone and I'm not looked down upon because I'm not a big enough customer.

And, that's fine - I'm bitter because you used to be helpful to the little guy in years past - and you are very knowledgeable. I've watched you over the last 5 years get progressively harder to reach and less interested in small orders. Now I have to think, is this order big enough to "bother" Onur with?

You do what you need to do for you. You don't owe me anything. I'm not even tagging your name so you don't have to waste time reading this reply unless you want to come back to this thread.

I read it and I understand your position, but you called me out in your post. So I am supposed to just sit back and let you bad mouth me with your clueless point of view? Yeah, um, no.

That said, I **lose** money on small orders. Does that make sense? And last time I checked, I am not a candy shop or a gift store. I am trying to make a living and put food on my family's table.

That's ok if it's everyone else, but seemingly not ok for me to do and it's not ok for me to run my legitimate business however I want.

I am on my own now and have been for 3 years now.

I am not a part of a dealership with a million dollar marketing budget where they can give parts away for nothing and screw people over in the service side or hide their discounts in dealership accounting-- which is how it's done.

I am not interested in volume. I am interested in creating authentic relationships with my clients. And luckily, my clients want to do that with me as well. Oh, and my $100 minimum is waived for my clients and the more they buy the better their discount is. It's called loyalty.

99% of people don't care about loyalty or supporting small businesses-- and that's cool. Most people want something for nothing and I don't participate in that. I don't compete with dealerships, or eBay, or Amazon. If I did, I would be divorced and living in cardboard box underneath an overpass.

Anyway, I've muddied up your build thread enough.

Drive fast and take chances.

Finally received the fuel line nuts and olives needed to make the fuel line between the pump and carb. @Rainman came by and made that line for me, and bolted a few more things in that I couldn't do as my family was scooting to the lake for the 4th of July. He was very nice to work on my truck in my absence again.

Unfortunately he discovered that the existing fuel line was a larger diameter, so the nut to the pump needed an original fitting instead of the adapter that was present. Of course no one carries metric so it's back to the online ordering process for one nut. So close!

I think, but haven't confirmed he got the tank straps on, new seat belts in, air filter returned to its home, seats mounted. Maybe some brake line Adell clamps added to keep the from vibrating around.

I'm glad to have found and put back original seats, tool box lid and latches, original fuel tank, fuel tank straps, rear seats, all of which were missing from this well maintained vehicle.

Crossing my fingers that it starts in the next 7 days.

Even though Vae hasn't been there to see what was done, he's real close. Only a few small problems.
Seats mounted. Check.
Seat Belts mounted. Check.
Air cleaner housing mounted. Check. (Needs clamp for the carb neck. most likely in a box in the garage.)
One strap mounted.. One needs the small end. Half check.
P.O. used the wrong bolts for the seats and belts so I was fortunate that only one bolt hole was stripped. One of the rear bolts for the seat rack. That needs tending to.
Insulators under the the battery tray.
Only need one adapter to be able to mount the new fuel line. (as per the previous post.) We get that and we'll crank it up for the first time!
The other items will come soon. I left after 3 hours of withstanding the 100+ heat index in the sun. ENOUGH.

Story of my life, lately.

What seat and belt bolts did the PO use? I just did this on my truck and was surprised to find a number of either 7/16-20 or M11x1.25 bolts at the belt mounting points. As M11 is grade 10.8 in that pitch is basically a unicorn, I used 7/16. I hope I’m not “that PO!”

The heat up in MD has been equally brutal this week. I go through 3 shirts an hour working on the 40. I drove mine to run some errands the other day and took a IR thermometer. My floorboards and transmission hump measured ~140 degrees.

Rick,
I'll check but I know Rainey found (and I still have) some hex head M11 bolts that fit the seat belt holes.

My new belts I purchased for the rear seats from Toyota came with the bolts attached, which was unexpected and very nice. I'm using these for the front seats since I'm running the bench seating.

So anyone have a spare one of these on an old fuel pump? This is the 58 - 9/73 version. SOR has them but at $27 I was hoping for reality. I've already bought one $45 fitting for the fuel tank. Tired of such crazy prices.

Problem solved. I looked down at the old fuel filter housing which I had been working around but was not being used, and noticed it had two fittings on it.

Damn if it wasn't the exact fitting we needed into the female end of the non-OEM brass 90° elbow.

If you just trust the spirit of the truck, she will provide.

It's not all pretty, but it's really solid. Not worried about looking good.

Below: new fuel line bent by Rainman, not cut yet.

Seats, belts, tank, rear cleaned out of the junk. Again, thanks Rainman.

Great news, it lives!

With the help of @Rainman and @oldschool4wheeling, we got STPCHLD started today for the first time since I bought it in 2015.

With a new carb, it runs rough, and won't idle, but it starts and will run with a foot on the pedal.

Once I get a longer throttle cable that will actually pull, I can work on the adjustments.

We bled the brakes as well. It was a productive day. A huge day for me.

Thanks again to this great community - without it, I'd never have all of these great experiences, friends, and knowledge.

Worked on the carb adjustments yesterday again with Rainman, OldSchool4wheeling and Roger, the anti-technology civil engineer / mechanic who we converted from a Heep guy to an FJ40 guy. Always grateful for a team effort!

Made progress. Idles now after leaning out the timing by adjusting the distributor angle a bit.

Will be doing a FSM carb setup one vacuum gauge arrives.

Superb red neck engineering to get out of the 100° heat.

Proof that it moved. Actually it only went backwards under its own power. Could not get it into a forward gear.

Now just need to get the gear box and Gear shift lever mated up properly.

On the 3 speed gear box, it’s only in reverse and I cannot find the notches for first and reverse when shifting.

I think when the gear shift was put back in after Rainey did the clutch, it wasn’t aligned properly.

Hang on... I'll take full responsibility if'n it was my fault but I believe the shifter was placed right back where it was before removal. I placed it in what I believed was neutral and put it back in straight. It's obviously in reveres and the shifter isn't in the forks right. Should be an easy fix but the PO leaves room for potential blame.

I rest my case until further notice...

I wish I could help more on the carb issue. Just remember - vacuum decreases as throttle increases, so the fact that vac is low while the carb is at 2500 rpm just means that you’re off the idle circuit.

I don’t have enough of an understanding of the F/2F carburetors to know why the idle won’t come down. A vacuum leak can cause idle to increase if you’ve got a rich fuel condition but not by 1000 rpm. When I had a leak on the 350, I’d get an improvement in idle if I covered the carburetor by about 100rpm.

The idle solenoid circuit theory seems like a good one...keep plugging away, you’ll figure it out!

Some progress despite being on vacation for the last two weeks. Bought the fuel neck cover, the 2nd fuel tank strap, and the carb spacer for the vehicle - all from Mark at Mark's Off Road.

I also received the shorter master cylinder to clear the carb.

Remembered to put an eyelet on the ground wire for the fuel return but this is likely NOT where it should be grounded. Maybe some kind soul will let me know.

Now just need to get out there and get the carb spacer installed, and get the gear box figured out (stuck in reverse despite position of gear shift).
