Also, does the spring on the gas pedal get soft over time, or do I need to just replace my really old, rusty, cracked fuel cable with a new, slippery one? Gas pedal doesn't return and the spring seems really soft.

Decided to make a new gas pedal return spring. Researched and found some Music Wire is spring-making steel. This wire was approx 0.106" for the original (around 2.75mm), so I found this at McMaster-Carr. About $9 for 1#, or about 34' (11 m).

Created a quick jig just slightly larger than the post on the pedal, and tried like I'd seen on YouTube. First effort was loose in the coils, looked ugly, but fit. 2nd attempt, same thing, but third attempt was successful and fit pretty well.

I have to anneal and temper this particular wire to get it to be springy enough and hold that spring.

First 4 photos are first attempt. Last photo is final product.

The correct fuel line Nut is :

- 23801B NUT , Union compression

- U will also need a Olive ( Compression Ferrell ) 23801A

Both part #'s are available at your local toyota dealer ,

U will need to simply tube cutter off your existing flare , install Nut & ferrell and insert your tube into your Now @Racer65 Carb. Fuel inlet Union

this method using the correct OEM parts will be way easier then trying to monkey around with adapters , i can see u have a SAE
Brake line fitting , and going from metric to SEA compression will be VERY challenging ..............

@Vae Victus

Note : the tube size correct OEM is 5/16" inch to mate with the union on your @Racer65 carb

Thanks @RAGINGMATT - appreciate the data and pics! I was just placing an order with Kyle (since Beno has no desire for the little guys $1000 order. I'm not bitter...).

Your welcome

I personally buy a 5' Long Brake line straight stick of CNUI , Copper Nickle Alloy from advance auto parts , and NOT the roll ,

this way u start out with some nice straight lines , I start from the pump and work my way up to the carb , i have found this approach gives way better results then carb down

5/16" is the toyota metric equivalent in SAE , there is little to no difference

I did a 1979 FJ43L-KC Fuel Lines not that long ago , I had a return line too , double the work ! , take Note of My routing & bends Locations

Yes, I was talking to Rainman the other day while I was at the autoparts store looking for the metric nut, which much to my surprise, they don't have. Never do.

Been bouncing back and forth between PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World, Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Parts and Accessories Online, and ToyoDIY.com checking parts diagrams, part numbers, and availability all night tonight. Oh, and the Ultimate OEM Parts thread (unfortunately found a lot of OEM parts that are still available for both SMOKEY and STPCHLD - $$$).

I do think that there is enough slack to try cutting off the flare and replacing with the right nut and olive and using the existing line. We will see.

Rainman has also said he'd come over and do a custom line with me if needed, as he has some of the nicopp 5/16" lines. The steel tubes used by whoever made the existing line is a little crimped in the 90* bends, so it may be better to make a new one.

All of you who own Rainman's Brake Lines can thank me for showing him the NiCopp by the way.... He doesn't remember, but I gave him my roll of it when he first decided to make brake lines, as I was the test dummy.
