Who has one? Can you post some pics? It would be nice to see how it was bolted on as well as the hole that was cut for the shifter.

Things of interest.

1. Year of vehicle
2. Engine, transmission, transfer case types
3. PTO shifter location (dimensions and any pics)
4. PTO frame extension bolt types and mounting pics
5. Pillow block location pics
6. Length of shaft from pillow block to T-case (End of U-joint to end of U-joint)
7. Length of shaft from pillow block to PTO head (End of U-joint to end of U-joint)

Did I leave anything out?

Thanks for your help. This was a fairly rare option on 55's.

When it warms up in a few months Marshall, I can get you most of the info above from my 1977 55 that came with the PTO winch.

Marshall, I assume you've looked at mine https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-...972-september-potm-cruiser-guy-guatemala.html

1. Year of vehicle: '76
2. Engine, transmission, transfer case types: 3B diesel, H41 4 speed and 3 speed transfer (located as close to the OEM location as possible).
3. PTO shifter location (dimensions and any pics): Where do you want dimensions from? I cut it out based on the pre-printed location on the rubber floor mat.
4. PTO frame extension bolt types and mounting pics: bolt types?? Not sure what you're after here.
5. Pillow block location pics: check my POTM thread. It's covered with a spash guard now.
6. Length of shaft from pillow block to T-case (End of U-joint to end of U-joint): I'll need to measure but they vary based on tranny if you are 100% stock. The shaft is splined shaft at the gearbox end so you'd be better asking for shaft length. I can measure a stock 3 speed length on my spare shaft.
7. Length of shaft from pillow block to PTO head (End of U-joint to end of U-joint): Shaft is splined at PTO head end. I can measure that off the spare shaft.

If you need more info just post I and I'll see what I can do.

I have a spare PTO shaft for the 3 speed tranny without the "U" joints at the PTO head and gearbox (it has the pillow block and the joint located there though as well as a pillow block support I fabbed before I found an OEM one). If you want it let me know and I'll work out a price. You can lengthen them when you have a 4 speed as you'll need about 3" more.

I will probably be seeing Paul "lomusass" sometime this spring in person and I can see if he's interested in reproducing the PTO frame extensions.

Charles, I think Marshall is picking up my spare set of frame ext.

Marshall, The pillow block mounts to the frame rail, between the radiator and the steering box.
I think the length from u joint to winch will be the same, but from u joint to trans will depend on 3 or 4 speed.
I think the floor cut out will be similar to FJ40's for location as the pivot spot is the same place on the trans.
I think the mounting bolts on the side are 10mm, the top are the same as the tow hook.
as for "rareness" I've found more PTO's on 55's than I have on 40's

Dumb question:hhmm:.....besides the longer shaft what are the differences in the PTO/winch set up with a 3 speed TC and a 4 Speed TC? TIA

Lou

The shifter rod is also slightly longer (all due to the increased length of the 4 speed). It's about a 2 1/2" difference.

I think it about 3 1/2" I've done this before on a FJ40 but the transmission and transfer are the same as a FJ55. I used a high/low shifter rod out of a early FJ40. The rod that runs from the motor mount to the transfer case. Kept the fitting on one side then cut to length threaded the rod to match the other end fitting.

PS: I should add that I think some PTO knobs were marked with a pattern. Mine was not.

the 2 I have, a 73 and a 74 are identical. no pattern
