love this thread, just awesome. So much info that it makes a noob like me feel that i may be able to pull it off one day. goodluck finishing the swap!

Thanks Griffin!

Been working on weather packing as much as the electrical as possible under the hood. I'm about halfway done now. Still waiting for my fan and shroud setup, hopefully this week.

Picked up my fan shroud on Friday, hoping to make some progress on the cooling system today. Also got the last bit of powdercoating back and installed.

Also spent a long afternoon wrestling with the body panels to get everything to line up ok. When I started the hood hung over the quarter panel 1.5". By the time i was done everything lined up pretty nicely..man what a PITA lol.

Sorry for the cellphone pic

Got most of a day in the garage today, and was pretty happy at how much I got done. Tons of little stuff, but all needed. Radiator and fan shroud are installed, and I finally found a lower radiator hose that works so I am pretty close to putting coolant in and running it more than a few seconds. The PN for the hose has been added to the first post.

Had something bite me in the ass today while working on the cruiser. I was moving some wires around and noticed the plastic sheathing on the clutch line was slightly melted. The engine hasn't been run for more than a minute or so, so it's pretty obvious that I am going to have to move the clutch slave cylinder. Here's a pic of where it's at currently.

I have the AA bracket for this already and tried to use it but because of the curved clutch fork there is no room for the pushrod. I need to swap to a straight clutch fork. Here's a pic of the difference between the two

I had thought about doing this before I put the engine in but didn't think it would be that big of a deal :bang: So this week the interior will come back out and the tank and the trans cover. Because I have an early SM420 I'll probably have to remove the bellhousing as well. My SM420 has the 2 bolts up top that go into the bell, and two bolts that go through the bell into the trans case. I can't see a way to just remove the trans in the case.

Hopefully once this is all back together I wont have to worry about boiling clutch fluid

Got a ton of work done today:

IMG_20130525_121223_852.jpg

Replaced the clutch fork and now the slave cylinder has ~3-4 inches of clearance from the header. Big improvement there. I got all the interior and gas tank installed again as well. Fixed a small problem with the tail lights and a couple of other small things. Checklist is getting short

Bleed clutch/brakes

wire in volvo fan controller

adjust clutch

top off diff/trans/xfer case oil

order intake tubing and air filter

install gas pedal / APP sensor

fix front seat mounting brackets.

After all of that is done it should be off to the exhaust shop!

Forgot to mention I figured out a upper radiator hose that works without any cuts or splices.

1997 Dodge Dakota with a 4cyl engine.

I might have a little bit of trouble fitting the intake elbow but I think it will work

Man, you did get alot done. Family must have been gone. A full day.

Everything is turning out nice, good job!

The wife and our 6mo old were home, but I had 2 friends over to give me a hand so it went pretty quick. Glad to have all that behind me, I'm positive I would have been boiling my clutch fluid had I left it alone.

Here's a pic of where the slave cylinder was:

The line not shown would almost touch the header collector.

Here's a pic of where the slave cylinder is now:

I had the same clutch slave cylinder and top radiator hose problems when we did my truck, we put a 6.0 LQ4 into my fj75 cruiser, we ended up mounting the slave cylinder on the engine mount and using a long 10mm push rod to get past the exhaust. it works fine other than being installed upside down with the bleed nipple at the bottom , My top radiator hose isn't flash but its functional we cut the top pipe off the water pump and rotated it a bit and tigged it back on so the hose didn't foul with the intake pipe on the throttle body, we used 2 pieces of radiator pipe and used a piece of 38mm tube to join them together

I had thought about the clutch slave back before I had the engine in but I didn't think it was going to be a huge problem. But with the new engine I had to go to block huggers and that sealed my fate. If I had been able to run the stock manifolds I likely would have been fine.

I have a couple of different hose options I could try, I went with this one because it didn't require any cuts. I have one that will go up over the intake a bit more but I will have to make a cut in the middle to remove some hose and clock the end that goes into the water pump. Hopefully what I have works and I can drive on.

don't forget to break out the video for the first turn over.

Looking forward to it hearing it!

Hey Griffiin,

Here's a very short video of the first fire up. I cut it short because I didn't see any oil pressure at the gauge. Turns out I didn't tighten the wire on the sender all the way. I'll post a longer vid before it goes to the exhaust shop. It's crazy loud and the shop foreman (:princess:) will give me the eye daggers if I run it for too long lol. I need a detached garage!

March 9th, dahuumm, I'm way behind.. Congrats anyways! Looking forward to more.

Made some more progress on saturday, got the corvette pedal assembly installed as well as found and installed a coolant catch can.

The pedal is off of a C5 corvette and was the smallest package I could find. I have an Ididit tilt column with a large metal collar around the base of the steering column. Only mod I did to the corvette pedal was to bend the upper tab to match the angle of the floor, and switch the corvette APP sensor to the one from the donor Suburban. Even though the connectors look the same the guide pins on the Corvette one aren't in the right spot and the plug from the TAC module wont go in.

Went to the local speed shop and found this catch can. I drilled and tapped some holes in the side of the radiator cradle, should work good and it's out of the way.

Looking good, almost done!

Is this gonna be a daily driver? Looks almost too perty to take offroading;p.

Seriously, I need to swing by one of these days and check it out.

BTW- If your ever looking for parts like the coolant hoses where you need a large selection to choose from- The napa across the street from IKEA in Tukwila is the place to go. Its a napa/warehouse, the staff is great and they know how to help you find what your looking for.

I'm not sure what's going to happen to it once it is done. We bought it out of state and had a hell of a time getting it registered in WA. We finally got collectors plates on it but I think that is as far as we can go with it without getting appraisals etc. I'd like to daily it if possible but it all depends on what hoops this stupid state tries to make me jump through.

You should come on by...I am typically working on it all day Saturday if that works for ya. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my #

Thanks for the info on that NAPA, I'll have to check it out. I think I annoyed the NAPA and Oreilly's guys here so much they just let me go in the back and look at hoses, I don't even mess with the autozone here in town.
